**Description du sujet**:
Les nouvelles technologies de l'information et de la communication (TIC) consomment actuellement 10% de l'électricité mondiale avec un impact significatif sur les émissions de gaz à effet de serre, et pourraient atteindre 20% en 2030. La conception de composants éconergétiques pourrait donc avoir un impact important sur l'empreinte énergétique mondiale. Afin de développer de tels dispositifs un nouveau champ de recherche s’est ouvert ces dernières années “la straintronique”, où des effets physiques sont induits via des contraintes mécaniques dans des matériaux multiferroïques. Ces MFs sont utilisés pour développer les prochaines générations de composants pour les technologies de l’information, pour les composants hyperfréquences, pour l'électronique flexible ou pour la santé [1]. Le projet FLAMINGOS est donc au cœur d’un domaine prometteur qui a émergé et gagné en visibilité internationale ces dernières années: la straintronique magnétique.
Notre projet FLAMINGOS vise à réaliser une avancée dans le domaine straintronique magnétique en combinant simultanément des stimuli optique, électrique et/ou mécanique afin d’obtenir des modifications importantes de l’anisotropie magnétique dans des nanostructures magnétostrictives à base de Galfenol et ainsi pouvoir modifier leurs propriétés statiques, et dynamiques d’aimantation dans une large bande de fréquences. Ce projet s'inscrit dans la recherche amont de nouveaux matériaux pour des dispositifs (ultra-) basse consommation dans le but de limiter l’ empreinte écologique et énergétique des techniques de l’information et des communications (TIC).
Nous aborderons donc ce thème de recherche original et impactant fort de nos récents résultats. En effet, nous avons développé les outils nécessaires à la réussite du projet, ceci grâce à notre expertise en élaboration d’un MF original à l’échelle nanométrique à base de Galfenol couplé avec un piezo électrique innovant et performant. La faisabilité et l’originalité de nos études ont été mises en avant par des articles très récents dans des journaux à fort facteur d’impact [2] dont le dernier dans le portfolio de la revue Nature [3]. L’expertise dans le contrôle des propriétés magnétiques sous un stimulus mécanique, électrique ou optique non combiné étaient au cœur de ces travaux. Il s’agira donc d’étudier les combinaisons possibles, leurs optimisations, et le couplage à l’échelle du nanomètre de ces propriétés.
Le(a) doctorant(e) bénéficiera de l'encadrement du laboratoire OPTIMAG. Il/Elle bénéficiera également de la collaboration avec le Département de Physique de l’Université de Johannesburg - Afrique du Sud où il/elle passera plusieurs mois et au cours desquels il/elle étudiera les effets de la perturbation thermique sur le fonctionnement des matériaux. A l’issue de la thèse, le ou la docteur reçoit le diplôme de docteur de l’UBO, ainsi qu’une certification de compétences de l’Université de Johannesburg. Cette thèse s’appuiera aussi sur des collaborations, déjà existantes, au niveau national.
