**Description du sujet de thèse**:
Tout comme le SrTiO3 (STO), le KTaO3 (KTO) est un ferroélectrique quantique dont la constante diélectrique suit la divergence de la loi de Curie-Weiss, mais ne subit pas de transition de phase ferroélectrique. Au lieu de cela, il développe des fluctuations quantiques dont l'influence sur la dispersion des phonons et le couplage électron-phonon n'est pas bien comprise. En outre, un dopage électronique minime dans le KTO et le STO induit un état métallique avec une mobilité élevée. Cependant, alors que la supraconductivité est présente dans les gaz d'électrons 2D (2DEG) du STO et du STO en vrac, seuls les gaz d'électrons 2D du KTO sont supraconducteurs. En outre, alors que la température critique dans les STO et STO 2DEG atteint 300 mK pour toutes les orientations, elle dépend fortement de l'orientation dans les KTO 2DEG, atteignant 2,2 K dans les KTO 2DEG orientés (111). Les 2DEG STO et KTO présentent tous deux un couplage spin-orbite de Rashba, mais le coefficient de Rashba est 5 à 10 fois plus élevé dans les 2DEG KTO.
Ce panorama ouvre plusieurs questions importantes concernant (i) le lien entre le SOC de Rashba et la supraconductivité, conduisant éventuellement à la supraconductivité topologique dans les 2DEGs KTO ; (ii) le rôle des fluctuations ferroélectriques - et la dispersion modifiée des phonons qui en découle - sur le mécanisme d'appariement ; (iii) la nature des porteurs de charge dans l'état normal (polarons, bipolarons, paires d'électrons ?); (iv) l'exploitation des propriétés électroniques inhabituelles de ces 2DEGs pour les technologies de l'information quantique.

Plus spécifiquement, le projet visera les objectifs suivants:
Pouvons-nous comprendre le mécanisme de la SC dans les KTO 2DEGs (et peut-être aussi dans le STO) et sa dépendance orientationnelle ?Pouvons-nous exploiter les KTO 2DEGS pour les technologies quantiques ?En utilisant (i) la supraconductivité topologique et (ii) des points quantiques fonctionnant avec des paires d'électrons.

**Contexte de travail**:
Ce projet de thèse de doctorat abordera ces questions brûlantes par une approche synergique combinant la théorie de la matière condensée, la science des matériaux quantiques et la physique quantique expérimentale.
Le projet impliquera le département de physique de l'Université de Chicago (Peter Littlewood) et deux partenaires français, à savoir le Laboratoire Albert Fert à Palaiseau (Manuel Bibes) et le LPEM de l'ESPCI à Paris (Nicolas Bergeal).
