Job Summary Working on both projects and bid proposals, the Senior Process Engineer is responsible for the process design of equipment systems, or parts thereof. The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for: Developing a process design which meets the requirements of the proposal or project Ensuring design phase outputs are delivered in line with the time schedule and quality requirements Providing technical support regarding process design aspects throughout project and bid lifecycles Undertaking other technical tasks as required (e.g., site surveys, feasibility studies, support to sales, etc.) In general, the Process Engineer will work as part of a team and will collaborate closely with other team members and functional disciplines to ensure successful delivery of the project or bid scope. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Process Engineer Safety & Environment Ensuring that, with respect to the scope of works for which SPX Flow is responsible, plant designs are safe and environmental impacts have been considered appropriately. Participating in relevant reviews, as defined in SPX Flow procedures and customer contracts, and ensuring that resultant actions have been completed (e.g., Design Reviews, Risk Assessments). Ensuring compliance with local legislation and regulations (e.g., EU Machinery Directive, EU PED Directive). Acting in a safe fashion, particularly when operating outside the known office environment. Process Design Tasks Generating process solutions and defining their characteristics (process flowsheets, P&ID diagrams, equipment specifications and list, process descriptions, functional design specifications, operating instructions, KPIs, product input/output requirements, utilities requirements). Adhering to SPX Flow procedures and utilising applicable tools and design standards during the development of process designs. Completing design calculations (e.g., pipe diameter sizing, pump sizing, thermal calculations) to support process design and equipment selection. Ensuring tasks are completed in accordance with the project schedule, required quality and allocated budget. Design Ownership Ensuring that the design is functional, executed in line with applicable legislation, customer contractual requirements and SPX references, standards and best practices. Ensuring design output is complete and consistently standard (documentation, equipment catalogues). Ensuring all scope elements/sub‑systems integrate coherently and external interfaces are clearly understood and defined. Considering economic factors to deliver the overall project on budget. Communication & Team Working Undertaking technical discussions with customers and suppliers. Attending relevant project or proposal meetings (launch, progress reviews, design reviews). Communicating information to stakeholders timely. Supporting other disciplines during the design phase (supply chain, mechanical, automation & electrical). Supporting installation & commissioning teams on the site (design intent, installation requirements, resolution of design issues, acceptance testing, KPI trials). Assisting with hand‑over of design information to the Aftermarket team. Documentation Preparing process operating instructions. Ensuring that all design information is captured, stored and maintained in a structured and accessible location. Compiling operating & maintenance manuals, including spares lists. Assisting in compilation of technical files as defined by relevant legislation. Additional Sales Support & Proposals Tasks Attending pre‑contact customer meetings to provide technical support to the sales team. Undertaking pre‑contract studies (feasibility, plant utilisation, site surveys). Reviewing technical aspects of quotation text. Lead Engineer Establishing and leading engineering team meetings/discussions. Generating and maintaining the time schedule for the engineering phase. Identifying and communicating resource needs. Actively managing team members to meet schedule demands and target on‑budget execution. Establishing and communicating consistent design and documentation standards. Ensuring required reviews and meetings are completed and actions closed out. Ensuring team compliance with SPX Flow processes and procedures. Engineering Community Member General Technical Support Acting as a subject matter expert and providing knowledge sharing. Supporting staff in areas where they are inexperienced. Providing general technical support outside the specific projects/proposals (conceptual design guidance, quotation review, external design reviews). Continuous Improvement Providing input into continuous improvement initiatives (tools development, standardisation). Documenting and communicating lessons learned. Involvement in knowledge sharing initiatives. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Fluent English – both spoken and written Good communication skills Ability to work on multiple tasks, within a matrix environment Ability and willingness to work and build relationships with colleagues across multiple functions and geographically diverse sites Good analytical and problem‑solving skills Good initiative and ability to work independently Ability to meet high performance standards in a team whilst maintaining ethics and integrity Education and Experience Degree level qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline (Process, Chemical, Mechanical) Engineering design experience in dairy, food, beverage, pharmaceutical and/or other hygienic industries Understanding of hygienic design principles, particularly relating to process engineering design Experience/understanding of systems designed for clean‑in‑place (CIP) Experience of working within, and leading, a technically oriented team Full driving licence – a strong advantage Good level of competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience of AutoCAD beneficial SAP experience beneficial Physical Demands In general, this is an office‑based job with a considerable amount of time spent at a computer. Ability to travel to other SPX locations and customer sites is a requirement. On some occasions, extended working away from the office may be required.
