Job Context and Qualifications

The Inria Odyssey team is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on stochastic modelling of oceanic flow for an 18-month term within the ERC Stuod project.

The successful candidate will join a team of researchers from Inria, Ifremer, and IMT Atlantique, focusing on mathematical and numerical modelling of ocean flows, observational and physical oceanography, data assimilation, and machine learning.

The team's expertise encompasses the development and application of stochastic models to improve the understanding, reconstruction, and forecasting of ocean dynamics.

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the project by exploring a variational formalism to infer a dynamics for the noise term in ocean dynamics models and studying numerically and theoretically the corresponding system of equations.

Main Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of the Odyssey group in Rennes, collaborating with other team members and researchers from Imperial College and Ifremer.

The successful candidate will have a solid background in applied mathematics and fluid dynamics, knowledge of stochastic parameterization, and proficiency in programming languages such as Fortran, Python, and Pytorch.

The postdoctoral researcher will receive a monthly gross salary of 2788 euros, subsidized meals, partial reimbursement of public transport costs, possibility of teleworking, and partial payment of insurance costs.
