Department Overview:
Joining the Group Underwriting Office (GUO), you will be part of a newly established Global Chief Underwriting Office. This office is responsible for driving profitability and growth through strategic product underwriting, portfolio design, and technical underwriting excellence in collaboration with AXA entities across both Commercial and Retail sectors.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
Position Purpose:
As a P&C Retail Control and Governance Specialist, your primary responsibility is to ensure effective underwriting governance and control across our global entities. Your key tasks will include:
- Establishing a comprehensive governance and control framework for underwriting to ensure compliance and effective risk management.
- Engaging in In-Depth Reviews (IDR) and Technical Reviews (TR) to evaluate and enhance underwriting control measures.
- Initiating governance and control initiatives based on monitoring outcomes to continuously refine underwriting processes.
- Overseeing portfolio profitability from a governance perspective, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Minimizing underwriting leakage and conducting distribution coverage analysis at the entity level to strengthen control measures.
- Leveraging internal and external data, including innovative technologies, to enhance underwriting practices with a focus on governance.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to foster a comprehensive understanding of governance and control management, ensuring alignment across the organization.

Your role will encompass oversight of:
- 20+ countries/entities and 3 regional hubs.
- €49 billion in revenues, representing 49% of AXA Group's total revenue.
- €17 billion in revenues from P&C Retail & Partnerships.
- €32 billion in revenues from P&C Commercial & Partnerships.
- 70+ requests for underwriting non-authorized business annually, amounting to approximately €2 billion in gross written premium.
Context and Challenges:
The P&C Retail sector is a vital component of our Group, contributing significantly to underlying earnings and serving over 20 million customers. While each market presents unique dynamics and regulatory challenges, the core requirements for retail insurance remain consistent, primarily focusing on motor, home, and travel insurance.
As the industry evolves, particularly with advancements in technology and changing customer behaviors, the P&C Retail business faces strategic challenges that necessitate innovative solutions and integrated value chains to address specific customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
As a P&C Retail Control and Governance Specialist, you will be tasked with ensuring the technical excellence of retail underwriting across our global entities, supporting their growth and profitability. Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing a robust governance and control framework for underwriting.
- Participating in In-Depth Reviews (IDR) and Technical Reviews (TR) as required.
- Providing detailed reports on portfolio performance, utilizing existing performance tools.
- Launching governance initiatives based on monitoring results.
- Steering portfolio profitability from a governance perspective.
- Enhancing governance processes and sales strategies at the entity level.
- Mitigating governance risks.
- Utilizing data analytics and innovative technologies to inform decision-making.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deepen understanding of governance and control management.
Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of governance and control principles, including risk management and compliance. A minimum of 5 years of experience in governance and control is required, along with familiarity with retail insurance products and client segments. Experience in reinsurance, project management, and navigating complex environments is advantageous. Essential soft skills include effective communication, high-level presentation capabilities, adaptability in a dynamic P&C landscape, a customer-centric approach, and strong negotiation skills.

- Group Lob committees: Provide expertise on Group referrals and support the underwriting community in fostering profitable growth.
- P&C Retail committee: Assist in the implementation of AXA's transformation strategies and support entities in their transformation journeys.
