Job Summary:
Milliman is seeking a highly skilled Data Privacy Counsel to join our Global Data Privacy Team in Paris, France. As a key member of our team, you will assist the Global Data Privacy Director in implementing our privacy program in the USA and Canada, including processes, procedures, and initiatives. You will collaborate with other departments and practices to support our US/Canadian privacy program, while also contributing to international projects and working with Data Privacy Counsels in other regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and monitor new and revised federal and state privacy laws, providing regular updates to the Global Data Privacy Director.
- Provide legal advice on a daily basis, assisting with the implementation of our Global Data Protection Policy in the USA/Canada.
- Prepare and present data privacy trainings to Milliman's U.S./Canadian practices, negotiating U.S. Data Sharing Agreements and collaborating with our U.S. Legal Team.
- Assist with the creation of ad hoc U.S. Data Sharing Agreement templates, responding to requests for data privacy advice from the business.
- Identify privacy risks in processes and systems, proposing mitigations and assisting with the implementation of the international Vendor Management Program.
- Maintain a network of local DPCPs, providing them with advice and regular training when needed.
- Assist with the drafting of employee notices/consent forms, maintaining Milliman's Records of Processing Activities and reviewing Data Mapping Questionnaires annually.
- Manage Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and other requests from data subjects residing in the USA, drafting Data Protection Impact Assessments where required.
- Monitor implementation of data privacy recommendations made under Privacy Impact Assessments, assisting with internal audits, privacy reviews, and self-assessment analyses.
Requirements:
- A Juris Doctor or qualified lawyer in a relevant jurisdiction, with a minimum of 6 years of post-admission experience working in data privacy law.
- Working knowledge of US federal and state data privacy laws, including HIPAA/HITECH, GLBA, FCRA, and international data privacy laws, particularly GDPR.
- Excellent organization and planning skills, with the ability to report and draft summaries of action plans, create plans and diligence to follow through, and monitor plans through execution and completion.
- Strong contract drafting and negotiating experience, with excellent written and communication skills, and the ability to adapt to different cultures and communication styles.
- CIPP certification through the IAPP (CIPP/US) is a plus, as is IT security knowledge.
