Cook Job Description

Newrest is looking for a skilled Cook to join our team in the George Bush International Airport. This role involves preparing and cooking meals for one of the main airlines, working with a globally renowned company.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure thorough understanding and demonstration of required menus
  2. Follow prep lists created by chefs to plan duties
  3. Responsible for prep, cooking, clean up, and organization of the kitchen area, complete pre-production
  4. Prepare meats, fishes, pastas, side dishes, and garnishes following recipes carefully
  5. Roast, fry, steam, grill, bake meats, fishes, vegetables as required by recipes
  6. Prepare food by cleaning, peeling, mincing, cutting, chopping, mixing, portioning, measuring ingredients, packaging, and labeling
  7. Prepare sauces and dressings according to standards
  8. Ensure sufficient product is pulled for the day, replenish supplies as needed
  9. Maintain proper food production records, ensure all equipment is operable
  10. Ensure all items for assigned stations & functions are prepared, garnished, ready for other departments
  11. Maintain good portion control and forecast of production
  12. Practice proper grooming, personal hygiene, and use safety equipment
  13. Place racks of products in cooling tunnel or any other available waiting area, stocked and ready to go
  14. Ensure kitchen is locked and all items secured, turn off all cooking machines before leaving
  15. Communicate effectively with kitchen personnel & other unit departments
  16. Compliance with all company service standards, health & safety procedures, food safety requirements
  17. Help where needed to ensure all kitchen areas are ready for service
  18. Responsible for sanitation and post-service set-up
  19. Notify team lead, lead hand, or manager of any maintenance repairs need or unsafe conditions
  20. Perform other duties as assigned
  21. Taste and smell prepared food to determine quality and palatability
  22. Monitor temperature of hot and cold foods through food preparation and service to ensure established temperature goals are met prior to steam table transfer and maintained throughout meal service

Requirements:

  1. Ability to stand for long periods
  2. Ability to read in English, write in English, speak in English
  3. Good knowledge of HACCP is an asset (training will be provided otherwise)
  4. At least 1 year in a similar position in a restaurant or in a catering business
  5. Ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment
  6. Ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment and work on weekends
