The American University of Paris is seeking applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Environmental Science at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer science, data science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment and demonstrate a strong track record in both teaching and research. Experience in software development across various contexts and programming languages is essential. A strong interdisciplinary interest, particularly in the social sciences or applied disciplines, is advantageous. Familiarity with liberal arts education and teaching experience is preferred. Proficiency in English is required, while knowledge of French is recommended but not mandatory.

Candidates should exhibit expertise in their specific area of Computer Science or Data Science, evidenced by academic publications, active contributions to publicly accessible codebases, and a record of teaching excellence.

Applications showcasing teaching, research, or industry experience in fields such as data science, software development, artificial intelligence (including machine/deep learning), high-performance computing, cybersecurity, and theoretical computer science are particularly welcome. Strong applications from adjacent areas of Computer Science, Data Science, and AI will also be considered.

Responsibilities
  1. The teaching load consists of six courses per academic year.
  2. Teaching responsibilities will focus on the department's curriculum, with potential courses including:
    1. Introductory programming classes
    2. Core undergraduate CS classes such as Human-Computer Interaction, Database Applications, Algorithms and Data Structures, and Software Engineering
    3. Introductory mathematics classes like Math for Life and Applied Statistics
    4. Other Data Science or Computer Science classes at both undergraduate and graduate levels, depending on scheduling needs
    5. Opportunities to develop and teach advanced Data Science classes or other subjects of interest
  3. Professional mentorship is a key aspect of our engagement with students.
  4. Commitment to scholarship, teaching excellence, and integrative learning is expected.
  5. Service to the department, including contributions to curricular development and advising students, is required.
  6. Willingness to participate in university service, including committee work and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  7. Active participation in faculty governance, including attendance at faculty, department, and committee meetings.
  8. Collaboration with the university community in a professional and collegial manner.
  9. Adherence to policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Manual.
