About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Manager to join our team at Assystem. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing informed environmental advice to ensure long-term environmental goals are met.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental management, waste management, and sustainability. You will be responsible for arranging and undertaking relevant site surveys, developing plans to maximize the environmental potential of our projects, and supporting environmental permit, license, and consent applications.

You will also be responsible for producing reports and coordinating data to support the achievement of Defence Related Environmental Assessment Methodology (DREAM). Additionally, you will oversee the management of contractual aspects to ensure environmental requirements are captured and the management of contractors who perform environmental activities.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be resourceful and well-organized, and have analytical and critical thinking skills. You will also have good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides informed environmental advice to ensure long-term environmental goals are met
  • Arranges and undertakes relevant site surveys and develops plans to maximize the environmental potential of our projects
  • Supports environmental permit, license, and consent applications
  • Produces reports and coordinates data to support the achievement of DREAM
  • Oversees the management of contractual aspects to ensure environmental requirements are captured and the management of contractors who perform environmental activities
  • Develops, manages, and maintains effective Environmental Management plans, including objectives and targets
  • Monitors the consumption of electricity, water, and waste through recording and analysis of data and reports the impact of changes
  • Ensures oil spills are managed in line with the Oil Spill Response Plan
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all environmental compliance obligations, including planning conditions, MMO license conditions, and permit conditions
  • Responds to emergency incidents and supports where required
  • Reviews and accepts contract Environmental Management plans
  • Conducts and reports on Environmental Audits
  • Identifies and analyzes environmental impacts and contributes to the identification and evaluation of risk reduction measures
  • Trains staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities
  • Raises awareness of best practice with all site personnel and ensures that equipment, processes, training, signage is appropriate for safe and correct disposal of waste
  • Conducts environmental incident investigations and reports findings
  • Works with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU legislation and regulations and MOD requirements
  • Liaises with relevant bodies, including local authorities, public bodies, and competent bodies
  • Delivers Environmental campaigns based on learning from experience and industry best practice

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental management, waste, chemistry, or relevant management discipline
  • Relevant professional accreditation (MCIWEM, PIEMA, or equivalent)
  • Full Driving License essential
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Defence and the Construction sector
  • Experience of implementing DREAM
  • Experience of working with marine regulation, permitting, and consents
  • Experience of working in Scotland with Scottish Environmental regulation
  • Experience in contractor procurement
  • Must hold, or be eligible for SC
