Position Overview

Role Description

The National Finance Lead will report directly to the Country Manager and will be an integral member of the core management team responsible for overseeing and directing financial and grant management for the Aga Khan Academies in Uganda. This role entails both strategic oversight and daily management of the financial operations for the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the finance, grants, and accounting functions within the organization.
  • Generate and analyze precise monthly financial and management reports, including cash balance statements, income statements, balance sheets, budget variances, projections, and cash flow analyses.
  • Assist the Country Manager in preparing board documents and conducting ad hoc financial analyses as needed.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and organizational policies.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of the Fixed Asset Register to ensure proper tagging and identification of all assets.
  • Prepare and submit cash requests to donors, following up on fund disbursements and receivables.
  • Manage and oversee all transactions related to payroll, accounts payable, revenue and expenses, fixed assets, cash, bank reconciliations, and allocations.
  • Execute month-end closing procedures, including overhead allocations and account reconciliations, and coordinate the preparation of financial information for the annual report.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for annual statutory audits, internal audits, donor audits, and governmental audits, ensuring timely completion and implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring organizational performance through the production of cash flow reports, annual budgets, and forecasts.
  • Calculate budget variances and report significant issues to management, assisting in the preparation of timely and accurate budgets.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure timely submission of budgets, leading the consolidation of the national budget and ensuring proper allocation of costs to grants and projects.
  • Assist in developing audit schedules for annual audits, conducting spot checks on partners, monitoring expenditures, and preparing donor reports.
  • Support proposal development, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and accounting policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, complemented by a professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Proven experience working with consortiums and international multilateral and bilateral donors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the budgeting process within a multi-donor environment.
  • Experience with Business Central & Jet Reporting ERP systems is advantageous; familiarity with other ERP systems is also acceptable.
  • Prior experience in an international development organization is preferred.
  • Experience in preparing and supervising annual financial accounts.
  • Proficiency in managing both annual external audits and internal grant reviews.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to exhibit effective managerial and leadership capabilities.

Location: This is a national position.

Travel: 30%
