- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, collaborating with the contemporary team to secure consignments.
- Maintain and expand a database of customers, including buyers and sellers, to drive sales and revenue growth.
- Build and maintain relationships with established collectors and trade contacts to encourage repeat business.
- Conduct valuations of customer property, both in-office and at external locations, to provide accurate and expert assessments.
- Participate in the organization of catalogues, notices, and condition reports, supporting the cataloguer in these activities.
- Source, research, and catalogue artworks for auction and private sale, working closely with the cataloguer.
- Contribute to the development of new valuations and generate proposals for business pitches.
- Prepare high-quality documentation, including academic-level essays for sale catalogues.
- Perform general administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the department, collaborating with the sales coordinator.
- Support the cataloguer's development and knowledge of the market, promoting their growth and expertise.
- Maintain awareness of competitors' strategies to maintain the department's competitive position in the market.
Requirements:
- Significant expertise in Post-War & Contemporary Art.
- Good market and trend awareness in France.
- Bilingual French and English; a third European language is a plus.
- Degree holder or equivalent; Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an auction house.
- Proven business acumen and valuation skills.
- An existing network of contacts in the market.
- Functional working knowledge of the auction process and related procedures.
- Competent Microsoft Word and Excel skills, ability to take and store digital photographs.
- Excellent time management and organization skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Able to work as part of a team and independently.
- Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
