Research Engineer in The Field of Surface Treatment

The job proposed is located inside the Metallic Coatings and Surfaces (MCS) cluster that is attached to both Process and Product research centers. This cluster of about 70 people deals with process developments (technologies, models, knowledge) and with product developments (metallic coatings, surface treatments). This cluster also includes corrosion and surface analysis expertise.

The position open is related : (i) to the development of Surface treatments aiming at improving In Use Properties at automotive customers and (ii) to the assessment of the effect of decarbonization processes (under implementation in ArcelorMittal company) on the steel surface reactivity.

**Your role**

As part of MCS cluster, Surface Analysis and Manufacturing team is looking to reinforce the staff dedicated to the Surface treatments topic. The objective is at least two folds (i) development of surface treatments in order to improve stamping adhesive bonding, phosphating behaviours, (ii) assessment of new decarbonized processes 'EAF, DRI,...) on surface reactivity of final products.

You are expected to:

- Elaborate working plans to define the best conditions to obtain surface treatments solutions fulfilling requirements,
- Work in close collaboration with surface treatments suppliers to define and assess the right formula,
- Implement at industrial scale new concepts to develop new products,

You will have the opportunity to work with people having numerous competencies in lab (coatings, surface analyses, corrosion,...), but also with people from different European hot dip galvanisation lines and some of our major suppliers (Henkel, Chemetall-BASF, PPG,...).

**Your profile**
- You hold a Masters' degree in the field of Material Science and/or Applied Chemistry,
- Any previous experience in steel industry/ chemist industry would be an asset, especially in surface treatments.
- You are advanced in French and in English.
- You are persevering, creative and a source of proposals in your work.
- You are able to manage several projects in parallel.
- You have skills in Teamwork.
- You are organized and rigorous in the reporting of your work and respect of deadlines.
