Company introduction:
A groundbreaking startup is addressing one of the most critical challenges of our time: climate change.
With an ambitious goal of removing a billion tons of CO2 by 2050, this company is developing the most energy-efficient and scalable Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology on the market.
Their innovative approach combines two CO2 desorption technologies to overcome the limitations of current processes, making large-scale deployment feasible without unsustainable energy, land, or water usage.
Job General scope:
My client is looking for its first key collaborator to work on the hearth of its technology: the electrochemical stack.
The position consists of supporting the CTO with scientific skills and a deep understanding of the electrochemical mechanisms, and lead new developments to reach the targeted performances in term of energy and costs.
You will be responsible for laboratory testing, electrochemical modelling and innovations on the electrochemical system.
Main Objectives:
- Lead technological developments on the electrodialysis unit, comprehensively understanding the full process.
- Develop testing protocols, build experimental setups, and conduct tests in the company’s Paris lab or partner facilities.
- Conduct comprehensive experimental campaigns to test and validate hypotheses.
- Design experimental setups and manage external supplies.
- Optimize operational conditions of the processes across all product scales.
- Explore and integrate innovative experimental methodologies to drive advancements in the field.
- Present findings clearly to the R&D team through written and oral communication.
- Contribute to electrochemical modeling and develop new models using professional software (e.g., AspenPlus).
- Manage relationships with suppliers and universities contributing to the R&D roadmap.
- Contribute to intellectual property development, including competitor benchmarking and IP production.
- Perform energetic and cost analyses on the electrochemical system.
Position Benefits:
- Permanent position.
- The position will offer a very high level of autonomy and the opportunity to make a practical contribution to mitigating the climate crisis.
- Attractive package inclusive of shares options, health insurance, food ticket and transport.
Qualification requirements:
- Electrochemical Engineer or Ph.D. with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electrochemical R&D/postdoc work, including both experimental and modeling tasks.
- Proven experience in designing, building, and assembling electrochemical setups, particularly at lab and pilot scales.
- Hands-on expertise with ion-exchange membranes, electrodialysis (or electrolysis) processes, and electrochemistry in aqueous systems.
- Practical skills in setting up experiments, including test stands, prototypes, and related equipment.
- Experience with larger electrochemical setups, particularly working with membranes ranging from 0.1 to 2 square meters in surface area.
- Strong leadership and precision in explanations, with the ability to lead R&D initiatives autonomously.
- Experience in related fields, such as lithium extraction, water treatment/purification, chloralkali, hydrogen production, or agro-industry applications.
- Proficiency in English (French is not required).
