About the team

The EMELA team is responsible for Life and Health reinsurance in Europe and Latin America and for worldwide Longevity reinsurance.

About the role

We are looking to hire a life reinsurance professional to join our Strategy and Proposition team.

This actuarial team has several missions within EMELA:
  1. Work with the EMELA CEO and Senior Management Team to research and set strategy, monitor strategic progress.
  2. Help the five EMELA market teams develop and launch new products/lines of business/ initiatives in line with strategy.
  3. Assist the EMELA CEO in specific complex, high value, high impact projects (both defensive where action limits our exposure and new growth opportunities).
  4. Be an expertise center for specific product lines (Longevity, Long Term Mortality and Critical Illness, Short Term, GMDB). Co-develop benchmarks and perform pricing for difficult, non-standard/one-off deals.

For the current open position, we are particularly interested in long term protection (mortality and morbidity) experts.

Your immediate responsibilities will include:
  • Design, review, improve and maintain the EMELA reinsurance portfolio projection model used for deciding strategic direction of our business - this will include in force as well as new production modeling.
  • Be part of the production of EMELA's three year financial plans and regular quarterly progress reporting.
  • Setup and lead transversal projects to improve EMELA's operational efficiency. Those projects usually include wider interactions within the L&H unit, with Operations & Reserving.
  • Be part of the EMELA portfolio monitoring framework and defining best practice across the whole team.
  • Collaboration with EMELA markets leader, Clients Partners and Pricing Actuaries to be able to assess the various objectives, priorities across the year. Punctual support to those teams is also possible


Qualifications

About you

You are an actuary. With a keen business and strategic mind. And openness to new product lines and geographies.

A background in or familiarity with Risk, Reserving, Business Development or Pricing / Modelling.

You will bring expertise in protection proposition design and pricing.

You will be a good communicator with the ability to connect and explain complex ideas effectively. You should be capable of working in an international and culturally diverse environment. You must be someone who can work within a team, but also enjoys a high degree of autonomy.

You will be effective at managing multiple deadlines and capable of leading complex developments and/or projects independently.

Experience/Skills:
  • A qualified Actuary/Engineer/Statistician with 3 to 5 years of Life reinsurance experience.
  • A deep knowledge of Long-Term mortality and morbidity risks
  • Exposure to Longevity risk is a plus
  • Most of the work is done in Excel and R.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Other language skills an asset.

Occasional travel to other offices can be expected.
