Senior Reservoir Engineer - COâ Storage
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Reservoir Engineer to join our client's R&D CCS/CO2 Storage team. The successful candidate will work on the "Integrated Application" project within the R&D CCS/STO program, focusing on multiphysical modeling for COâ injection into saline aquifers and depleted reservoirs. This role involves developing and optimizing numerical models that integrate flow and geomechanical aspects to better understand COâ injection processes and ensure the long-term stability of COâ storage.
Key Responsibilities
- Reservoir Modeling:
- Develop and implement numerical reservoir models for COâ storage sites, specifically targeting saline aquifers and depleted reservoirs.
- Integrate fluid flow simulations into models to assess COâ injection behavior and optimize the injection process.
- Tool Evaluation:
- Evaluate and recommend next-generation tools for reservoir simulation, focusing on their applicability to COâ storage.
- Uncertainty Analysis:
- Analyze the static and dynamic models of COâ injection, with particular emphasis on the uncertainties related to input parameters.
- Study the impact of these uncertainties on the propagation distance and shape of the COâ plume.
- Data Calibration:
- Calibrate 4D seismic data to reduce discrepancies between predicted and observed COâ plume behavior.
- Ensure consistency with geological concepts and refine models to improve prediction accuracy.
- Long-Term Forecasting:
- Estimate the long-term movement of COâ plumes.
- Assess the impact of various storage mechanisms on the stability and integrity of the COâ storage site.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Expertise:
- Advanced proficiency in multiphase flow simulation tools in porous media, with a strong preference for experience using the Intersect reservoir simulator.
- Comprehensive understanding of reservoir simulation concepts, particularly as applied to geological COâ storage.
- Experience in field development for hydrocarbons or COâ storage within an uncertainty framework, including the use of tools for multiple realizations and experimental design.
- Toolchain Knowledge:
- Familiarity with the geomodeling/simulation toolchain (e.g., SISMAGE-CIG) or equivalent experience with Petrel.
- Communication Skills:
- Ability to work autonomously with a rigorous problem-solving approach.
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare technical reports and presentation materials. Proficiency in French is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in COâ storage projects or related field development.
- Knowledge of geomechanical modeling and its integration with flow simulations.
- Prior experience in seismic data calibration and interpretation.
