Context

For a better understanding of the research subject:

  • AIO () is a top research team in low-power wireless communications focusing on the future Internet of Things. The team pioneers low-power wireless mesh networking for critical applications such as robotics and industrial control, ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and energy efficiency.
  • You will be an integral part of the dynamic Inria-AIO team, receiving guidance from Thomas Watteyne, the team leader.
  • Collaboration with various members of the Inria-AIO team will provide ample opportunities for learning, especially from the localization experts.
  • Close coordination with Falco/Wattson Elements is also expected.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute significantly by establishing a crucial test infrastructure for the Inria-AIO team by the end of your internship.
  • Aim to develop a solution for potential use at major events like the Olympic games, involving embedded programming, prototyping, and Python software.
  • Gain a holistic system view, employ cutting-edge code development tools and practices, and lead a scientific publication submission to a conference or journal.
Assignment
  • The hired engineer will closely collaborate with Falco/Wattson Elements
  • Collaboration will include working with Ericsson and Orange utilizing their 5G technology

Responsibilities:

  • Design a compact device (matchbox-sized) to measure a boat's motion and position with high accuracy
  • Transmit data through Orange 5G technology with minimal delay
  • Implement engineering developments for sailboat tracking during the Olympic games
Main activities

Main activities:

  • Envisioned to bring spectators closer to sailing events, this project involves deploying small matchbox-sized devices on boats to measure movements, positions, and distances accurately.
  • Leveraging Orange's 5G technology, data can be relayed swiftly for media usage, enhancing viewer experiences with real-time insights into boat actions and crew dynamics.
Skills

Seeking a recent graduate with a Masters of Engineering or Masters of Science diploma.

  • Experience in embedded programming and IoT systems
  • Proficiency in software quality, project management, and technical leadership
  • Ideally, exposure to prototyping and open-source projects
