Purpose of the role

We are in search of a new team member to join our group of backend and full-stack engineers, focusing on enhancing our B2B and browser extension offerings. You will play a key role in introducing new features to our mobile and desktop applications, ensuring they align with Proton's continual growth.

What you will do

  • Autonomously expand the feature set for our browser extension and B2B users
  • Revamp and optimize existing code to maintain a robust API for our VPN client applications and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with product owners, designers, QA, and fellow engineers to see projects through from concept to completion
  • Break down major projects into smaller milestones to swiftly gather feedback from stakeholders, facilitating immediate adjustments
  • Provide suggestions for the best course of action when projects stall between product and engineering teams
  • Keep security at the forefront during design and implementation phases to uphold our commitment to safeguarding user data
  • Demonstrate a growth-oriented mindset and a team-player mentality by assisting in elevating code quality, architecture, and day-to-day processes

Job Requirements

  • Solid expertise in backend architecture and development
  • Proven experience working on highly scalable production systems
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and software engineering capabilities
  • Ensures product consistently meets user expectations
  • Thorough understanding of software engineering best practices like SOLID principles, Design Patterns, TDD, CI/CD
  • Enthusiastic about both learning and sharing knowledge through constructive dialogues

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with modern PHP and the Symfony framework
  • Background in frontend development utilizing Javascript/Typescript and React
  • Contributions to open-source projects
  • Experience leading intricate, highly scalable production systems
  • Familiarity with data processing and storage technologies (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Elastic)
  • High-level grasp of cryptography concepts such as key exchange and asymmetric encryption
