Job Purpose

Maintenance Mechanic needed to carry out regular maintenance of a commercial shredder to ensure its safe and efficient operation to meet the production demands of a Recycling operation's shredder.

Key Job Elements
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies including lockout-tagout procedures, fall protection, and confined space protocols;
  • Conduct troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, particularly on the shredder;
  • Support preventive maintenance initiatives to minimize equipment downtime;
  • Utilize various tools and equipment for maintenance tasks, including welding tools;
  • Accurately complete work orders and associated paperwork;
  • Undertake any other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Preferably possess 3+ years of mechanical experience in a machine shop or industrial environment, with expertise in electrical, industrial, production, and heavy equipment troubleshooting and repair;
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills;
  • Ability to quickly analyze and address maintenance issues effectively;
  • Proficient in PC applications, including Microsoft Office suite;
  • Experience working with overhead cranes and mobile equipment;
  • Adept at working on diverse surfaces such as concrete floors, gravel, dirt, and railroad tracks.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions:
  • Strength – Ability to lift up to 50lbs, and possess the stamina to work in confined spaces while conducting repairs on locomotives or related components;
  • Motion – Involves predominantly standing, occasional sitting, frequent walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for objects and tools;
  • Vision/Hearing Requirements – Exposed to high levels of noise and vibration, with specific visual abilities required for various tasks. Proper personal protective equipment is essential;
  • Work Environment – Work settings may vary indoors or outdoors, subject to different weather conditions. In all scenarios, employees will work with machinery and lubricants;
  • Emotional Demands – Expected to work collaboratively within a team to meet production targets;
  • Safety – Safety-sensitive role involving work around live tracks and heavy equipment, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
