Senior Director Organoid based Assay Development

At Okomera, we're on a mission to transform cancer drug discovery and diagnostics. Based in the heart of Paris with connections in San Francisco, our revolutionary microfluidic based device assesses cancer drugs using patient samples, unlocking new drug dsiscoveries and paving the way for optimized therapeutic approaches. With a team of 20 eminent scientists, engineers, and biologist, we already work on leading cancer centers and industry.
The Position
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director of Organoid-Based Assay Development at Okomera will lead the biology team, consisting of more than five direct reports with the ambition of rapidly recruiting more people in the US. The leadership of the candidate will be pivotal in developing and optimising organoid models derived from patient samples, driving innovation in cancer drug discovery and personalised medicine solutions. This individual must also ensure effective collaboration with the teams and partners in charge of software and hardware activities.
Key responsibilities will include:
Leadership: Direct and mentor a team of biologists to achieve project goals and foster a collaborative research environment.
Organoid Development: Oversee the creation and optimisation of organoid models from patient-derived samples.
Assay Development: Lead the development of organoid-based assays to explore cancer biology, drug responses, and tumour microenvironment interactions.
Strategic Planning: Design and implement experimental strategies that align with the diagnostic platform and business objectives.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including biologists, chemists, and engineers, to integrate organoid models into the platform.
Drive External Collaboration: Act as the scientific point of contact for clinical and pharma projects.
Data Analysis: Ensure accurate analysis of experimental data, maintain detailed records, and present findings to the team and stakeholders.
Innovation: Stay updated on the latest advancements in organoid research and apply innovative techniques to improve models and assays.
Candidate Requirements
Education: PhD in Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, or a related field.
Experience: 10+ years of industry experience in organoid research, with a focus on cancer models. Proven leadership experience in managing research teams.
Expertise: Strong background in 3D cell culture, organoid development, tissue engineering, and immunology / immuno-oncology. Proficiency in T cell activation, co-stimulation, and overall T cell biology is highly desirable.
Skills: Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, imaging, and data analysis. Expertise in standard molecular biology assays is essential.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French is a plus. A proven record of scientific publications is advantageous.
Science: Publication track record is a strong plus.
External Collaboration: Demonstrated success in managing complex external collaborations, including vendor management and strategic partnerships with academic institutions.
Data Management: Strong understanding of data management principles, quality control processes, and regulatory requirements applicable to medical imaging data.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Strategic Thinking: Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of driving innovative solutions and navigating challenges in a dynamic pharmaceutical environment.
Travel: This position may require approximately 20% travel to the US.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, energetic, and excited to work in a fast-paced environment.
