Your Mission
  • Join our FinTrust team as a Backend Engineer, contributing to both the trust and safety and finance scopes. You'll work on enhancing the safety and reliability of our platform for owners and drivers while ensuring a robust accounting system. Although your primary focus will be on the trust and safety aspects, you'll have opportunities to contribute to the finance scope over time. In this role, you'll tackle challenges such as:


Trust and Safety:
Enhance the reliability and flexibility of our driver vetting systemImplement measures to deter car theftDevelop efficient phishing prevention and detection mechanisms

Finance
Integrate new payment methods into our platformOptimize our owner payout solutionsImprove our accounting closing and reporting systems

We're looking for a dedicated engineer eager to make an impact on both user safety and financial reliability. Your contributions will directly support our mission to provide a secure and trustworthy platform for all users.>
What you'll do
  • Build New Features: Take features from initial exploration through conception, development, testing/QA, release, documentation, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code, adhering to best practices.
  • Primarily Backend Work: While focusing mainly on backend development, you may occasionally work on full stack projects.
  • Architectural Development: Contribute to shaping the squad's vision by using continuous refactoring to build a more decoupled architecture and create user-friendly abstractions for other developers.
  • Code Reviews: Review your peers' code to share knowledge and ensure code updates meet our product and tech standards.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical insights for estimating and prioritizing the most valuable features.
  • Team Rituals: Participate in team rituals to refine processes, manage day-to-day requests, explore, and estimate upcoming work.

Tech Stack
  • Backend: Ruby on Rails 7 with Ruby 3
  • Frontend: Haml, TypeScript, and React
  • Background Jobs: Sidekiq
  • Testing: RSpec
  • Continuous Integration: Docker and CircleCI
  • Continuous Deployment: Deploy multiple times a day to AWS (K8) using Shipit, our homemade tool
  • Databases: MySQL, Redis, Snowflake, each used for different purposes
  • Monitoring: New Relic and Bugsnag

Who you will work with
  • You'll interact daily with members of the squad, including:
  • Clélia,your Product Manager
  • Eric, Engineering Manager, who'll also be your manager
  • Anna, David, Lukasz, Valentin, your fellow Backend and Full Stack Engineers
  • Benjamin and Nathan (Data Analysts), Cédric (Frontend Engineer), Quentin and Romain (Mobile Engineers)


Additionally, you will:
Collaborate closely with business stakeholders responsible for risk and safety departments in both our EU and US markets.Work with Corporate Accounting and e-payment teams in both regions.Engage with developers and technical teams from other squads across different regions, including the US.
What you'll bring
  • Proven Experience: 4+ years of experience. You've shipped and maintained code running in production environments.
  • Backend Proficiency: Strong knowledge of at least one backend object-oriented language (Ruby preferred).
  • Database Skills: Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Meticulous Engineering: You prioritize reliability in the backend services you create, maintaining a meticulous engineering approach.
  • System Design: Good understanding of system design, data structures, and overall architecture.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills in English, essential for collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical team members, including fully remote colleagues.
  • Detail-Oriented: Capable of challenging specifications and always ready to offer solutions. You balance technical and business needs effectively.
  • User Focused: You understand that the ultimate goal is to enhance user value through your contributions.
  • Team Player: You have an egoless programming mindset and can take constructive feedback on the code you produce.
  • Frontend Familiarity: Experience with Vanilla JS and/or React is a plus.
