- contribute to the delivery of UNEP's on-going work and activities related to the high impact minerals and metals sector and extractives agenda.

Duties and Responsibilities
Following the implementation of UNEP/EA.4/19 on mineral resource governance and UNEP/EA.5/12 on environmental aspects of minerals and metals management, the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) adopted a resolution on environmental aspects of minerals and metals.
The resolution requests UNEP to, inter alia:
- Establish a digital knowledge hub to compile, among other things, information on existing good practices relevant to the environmental aspects of minerals and metals and to share (operative paragraph 2 a);
- Develop capacity-building opportunities relating to environmental aspects of minerals and metals with experts on the subject from each region, including but not limited to online training (operative paragraph 2 b);
- Support enhanced cooperation among Member States to strengthen the policy, technological, technical and scientific elements of the management of environmental aspects of minerals and metals (operative paragraph 2 c);
- Strengthen the cooperation between the United Nations Environment Programme and relevant international and regional organizations and forums, and with relevant stakeholders, on environmental aspects of minerals and metals (operative paragraph 3);
- Report to the Environment Assembly at its seventh session on the progress achieved in the implementation of the present resolution (operative paragraph 4). With the objective of implementing the UNEA resolution 6/5, UNEP is requesting a consultant who will support the process of establishing a digital knowledge hub to compile best practices and other reports requested by the resolution as well as support the development of capacity building opportunities for Member States and other stakeholders. The tasks will be conducted under the supervision of Programme Management Officer, Extractives Value Chains, Consumption and Production Unit of the Resources and Markets Branch and in close coordination with the Head, Consumption and Production Unit.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Aim of the consultancy work The overall objective of this consultancy is to support the implementation of the UNEA 6/5 resolution on environmental aspects of minerals and metals and support UNEP's overall work in the high impact minerals and metals sector and extractives agenda. - Quality of work SMART objectives, output expectations and performance indicators linked to overall objectives: Specific outputs - Development of the substantive content of the digital knowledge hub which will consolidate best practices on environmental sustainability of minerals and metals. - Assist with the development of capacity building opportunities as requested in the UNEA 6/5 resolution, including the development of trainings, webinars and knowledge products. - Support (via background documents, advice to UNEP, participation, note-taking and summarizing of key outcomes) of regional and global meetings related to the implementation of UNEA resolution 6/- Consultant progress reports on the implementation and progress of deliverables. An advanced university degree (or equivalent) in a field related to law, environmental affairs, environmental policy, environmental or geological sciences or a related field.
At least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in the field of environmental management or environmental governance with specific expertise in the mining / extractive sector.
Substantial and demonstrated experience in dealing with extractive industries with specific focus on governance and previous experience in organizing intergovernmental meetings is required.
Professional experience working with a diverse range of organizations, including governments, private sector, academia, NGOs and foundations or charities including in developing country contexts is required.
Former exposure to UNEP's work on extractives and/or familiarity with the United Nations Environment Assembly resolutions is desirable.Languages
