Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education, the overall guidance of the Director of the Division for Peace and Sustainable Development, and the immediate supervision of the Chief of Section of Global Citizenship and Peace Education, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination, implementation and monitoring of the Flagship Programme on the General History of Africa's components related to education, with particular emphasis on mainstreaming the GHA into education systems in Africa and beyond, while contributing to the Section's broader efforts, in particular, those focused on education for peace, human right and democracy and for addressing hate speech, given that the resources developed within the framework of the "Pedagogical Use of GHA" suggests entry-points for key themes related to global educational frameworks, notably Global Citizenship Education.

Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks and responsibilities:
Contribute to the overall coordination of the FP GHA, including, but not limited to, organizing regular meetings with the GHA Intersectoral Group, drafting project documents and materials, developing strategies and work plans, backstopping and monitoring the various initiatives included in the work plans, report drafting, archiving, etc. Contribute to the revision, finalization, publication, dissemination and implementation of GHA pedagogical materials, comprised of curriculum outlines and teachers' guides, while establishing regular exchanges with experts and GHA focal points throughout the process.Ensure the content development, reviewrevision, production and publication process for communication and advocacy materials of the General History of Africa, such as brochures, PowerPoints, website articles, press release, social media posts, multimedia materials.Liaise with Member States, regional and subregional organizations, and other UNESCO Sectors, Institutes and Field Offices to establish or maintain regular relations and exchanges through appropriate means and channels. Organize of in-person and virtual events, conferences and workshops as appropriate; Contribute to providing strategic guidance on UNESCO activities related to the Global Citizenship and Peace Education section, linking, in particular, GHA to education for democracy and digital citizenship, youth participation and social and emotional learning, the role of education in addressing hate speech, racism and discrimination, and help coordinate engagement of Member States and partners in these areas.Contribute to resource mobilization by playing an active role in the development and finalization of project proposals, ensuring that they align with the broader objectives of the Section, in particular those related to education for peace, democracy and hate speech. Perform other any relevant duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.Required Qualifications:

Education:


Advanced education degree (Masters's or equivalent) in education, social sciences, international relations or related areasWorking Experience:
Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience in areas related to education, including at least three (3) years implementing international projects.Experience in evidence-based educational research, policy reviews or data analysis. Experience in developing and disseminating knowledge products, including for policy-planning and capacity development purposes.Experience in networking and advancing partnerships with diverse partners, including representatives of Member states and UN organizations.Skills:
Excellent analytical skills and knowledge and understanding of global education-related issues, in the context of the Sustainable Development Agenda, Our Common Agenda and other major multilateral frameworks.Ability to draft high-quality, clear and concise analyses, studies and reports.Ability to draft concept notes and project proposals.Excellent coordination, negotiation and presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in a multicultural environment.Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to maintain effective working relations within a multicultural environment and team.Demonstrated capacity to work under tight deadlines.Knowledge of Africa and familiarity with Africa HistoryLanguages:
