Wenham Carter are partnered with Europe’s newest and most exciting high-tech company in the EV battery technology sector, hiring for a Commodity Buyer.


The Commodity Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing chemicals and non-active materials essential for the company’s operations. This role involves managing supplier relationships, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and maintaining high standards of quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:


Sourcing and Procurement:

  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for chemicals and non-active materials.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and pricing.
  • Request and analyze quotations from suppliers, and negotiate terms to achieve the best value for the company.


Contract Management:

  • Prepare and manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Monitor contract performance and address any issues or discrepancies.
  • Manage renewals and extensions of supplier contracts.


Cost Management:

  • Develop and implement cost-saving strategies without compromising on quality.
  • Track and report on cost performance and savings achieved.
  • Work collaboratively with the finance department to manage budgets and forecasts.


Quality and Compliance:

  • Ensure all purchased materials meet the company’s quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with the quality assurance team to address any quality issues.
  • Stay updated with regulations and ensure supplier compliance with industry standards and laws.


Inventory Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels of chemicals and non-active materials to prevent shortages.
  • Coordinate with the production and warehouse teams to ensure timely delivery and storage.
  • Implement strategies to optimize inventory turnover and reduce excess stock.


Supplier Performance Management:

  • Evaluate supplier performance regularly and provide feedback.
  • Develop and implement improvement plans for underperforming suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier audits to ensure ongoing compliance and performance standards.


Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier communications.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
  • Utilize procurement software and systems for data management and reporting.


Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to understand material requirements.
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to ensure efficient delivery and handling of materials.
  • Support the development and implementation of new products by sourcing necessary materials.


Skills:

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement, specifically in chemicals and non-active materials.
