System Engineering Specialist (Freelance)


Rate: €550/day - EU Nationals Only as the role will require Security Clearance which will be arranged by the client on start, candidates must be happy to obtain clearances


Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior System Engineering Specialist for a freelance position. You'll be responsible for providing top-notch IT support, designing, and troubleshooting across a variety of platforms and environments.


Key Responsibilities:


  • IT Support & Troubleshooting: Handle large server and SAN farms, and complex IT platforms.
  • Virtual Environments: Configure and troubleshoot VMware vSphere, vSAN, and Horizon.
  • Server & OS Management: Administer UNIX, Linux, and Windows systems.
  • Backup Solutions: Design and manage backup and restore systems with VEEAM and StoreOnce.
  • Infrastructure Administration: Manage servers, blade systems, and storage systems (SAN, CEPH, vSAN).
  • DEVOPS Platform: Oversee OCP with tools like Red Hat Service Mesh, GitHub, Helm, and Ansible Automation.
  • Scripting: Develop and troubleshoot Ansible and PowerShell scripts.
  • Security & Monitoring: Administer PKI, certificates, Nagios, and Splunk.
  • Oracle Infrastructure: Manage Oracle EXADATA and ZDRLA.
  • Email Systems: Administer mail servers, relays, antivirus, and anti-spam solutions.
  • Software Deployment: Centralize deployment of software and updates.


Qualifications:


  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent (minimum 4 years post-secondary).
  • Experience: At least 9 years in relevant professional roles.

  • Hardware management (racking, cabling, firmware upgrades)
  • Inventory and configuration management
  • Advanced VMware skills (vSphere, vSAN, Horizon)
  • Oracle hardware management
  • Red Hat and Windows OS administration
  • Active Directory/LDAP management
  • Backup and storage system expertise (VEEAM, StoreOnce, SAN, CEPH)
  • Advanced scripting (Ansible, PowerShell)
  • Software compliance monitoring
  • OCP platform administration
  • Mail server support (postfix), antivirus, and anti-spam
  • Basic database knowledge (MS SQL, Oracle, Elasticsearch)
  • Monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Nagios, Splunk)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience with high-availability environments and multi-site support
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, change, capacity, configuration management)
