GravitHy in a nutshell


The iron and steel industry plays a key role in the European economy, generating around 300,000 direct jobs and 1.6 million indirect jobs, with an estimated annual added value of €82 billion. However, this industry remains heavily reliant on fossil fuels, emitting nearly 190 million tons of CO2 each year, which represents about 5% of the European Union's total CO2 emissions.


GravitHy is an innovative French company, born with the global ambition to decarbonize the steel industry. Our goal is to produce green, low-carbon direct reduced iron (DRI) on a large scale through the use of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen. We plan to build, own, and operate our first green iron plant in southern France, with the intention of replicating this model across Europe and beyond.


The Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could potentially impact the company’s operations, financial performance, or reputation. This role involves developing risk management strategies, monitoring risk exposure, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The Risk Manager works closely with all departments to safeguard the company's assets and minimize risk exposure.


Main Responsibilities:

  1. Risk Identification and Assessment:
  • Identify potential risks (financial, operational, strategic, regulatory, etc.) that may affect the business.
  • Conduct risk assessments to determine the likelihood and impact of each risk.
  • Develop risk registers and maintain a risk database.
  1. Risk Mitigation and Control:
  • Design and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize or eliminate identified risks.
  • Collaborate with departments to establish risk control measures and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Ensure that risk management processes are integrated into business operations.
  1. Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
  • Ensure the organization complies with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and assess their potential impact on the business.
  • Lead efforts to ensure compliance with internal and external audits.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Regularly monitor and review the company’s risk landscape and update risk assessments accordingly.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on risk exposures for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and monitor them to anticipate emerging risks.
  1. Crisis Management and Business Continuity:
  • Develop and manage crisis management and business continuity plans.
  • Lead response efforts during crisis situations to minimize disruptions to business operations.
  • Ensure the organization is prepared for emergencies by conducting simulations and training.
  1. Risk Culture Development:
  • Promote a risk-aware culture across the organization.
  • Provide training and education to employees on risk management policies and best practices.
  • Encourage proactive risk identification and reporting within all departments.

Required Skills:


Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, standards (e.g., ISO 31000), and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment tools and software.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate risk scenarios and financial impacts.


Behavioral Skills:

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot emerging risks and potential vulnerabilities.
  • Problem Solving: Strong critical thinking and the ability to propose practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting risks and strategies to diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead cross-functional teams in risk management initiatives.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management, compliance, or audit roles.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Risk Professional (CRP), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) are a plus.


Work Environment:

  • Collaboration with all departments, including finance, operations, legal, and compliance teams.
  • Regular reporting to executive management on the organization’s risk profile.
  • Occasional travel for audits, regulatory meetings, or crisis management.
