Le CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment) est un institut parapublic français réalisant des activités de recherche, d'évaluation et de certification sur les éléments de construction. Il comprend des laboratoires matériaux, structure et feu équipés d'appareils d'essais uniques. Les ingénieurs de recherche et d'évaluation présentent une expertise sur le comportement au feu des matériaux de construction.

**Description**:
Indeed, this phenomenon can considerably worsen the spread of a fire inside and outside a building. The electrification of the building stock or thermal renovation associated with different bio-based products, both in terms of the structure and the interior cladding, then require vigilance in order to reduce this risk of fire. It is therefore essential to understand the influence of all the elements associated with the constructive solution by taking into account all the interactions linked to the combination of different types of materials.

The objective is to be able to predict to what extent smoldering fire can affect the maintenance of the mechanical performance of the building structure and increase the risk of fire. For this, it is essential to develop methods and tools for detecting this phenomenon at the level of the constructive solution. The internship program will cover:

- the identification of parameters for characterizing smoldering fires (bibliography and compilations of the various works already carried out at the CSTB)
- the implementation of small-scale tests (e.g.: calorimetric cone) in a controlled atmosphere with the association of materials and specific physico-chemical characterizations (e.g.: gases, aerosols and thermal).
- the establishment of a full-scale demonstrator test (e.g. calorimetric hood) and specific physico-chemical characterizations (e.g. gas, aerosols and thermal).
