The Nestlé Plant Science Research Unit located in the Loire Valley in Tours (France), is part of the Nestlé Institute of Agricultural Sciences within the Nestle Research Organization whose main center is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. Nestlé Research combines fundamental science at the highest level, high-end analytical platforms leveraged by all research teams, and strong capabilities to accelerate the translation of science into innovation. The Plant Science team builds knowledge on strategic crops with the aim of developing new plant materials in order to deliver quality products through better and sustainable farming.

- Full-time contract
- PhD or Msc in Plant Breeding, Plant Science or equivalent
- At least 10 years of experience in R&D. Experience in industry is a plus

Reporting to the Head of Plant Science and locally to the site manager, you define and deploy the R&D strategy for plant breeding. You ensure translation of plant science and agronomy into business outcomes. You contribute to our sustainability strategy to meet our society commitments. You interact proactively with Business functions and Operations to define key success criteria and ensure the transfer of the project deliverables.

This leadership role offers you an excellent opportunity to liaise with many areas of the business, working with multi-disciplinary teams and acting in an international matrix like organization.

**Your responsibilities**
- As a department head, you overview the project portfolio, leading a large team of technicians, engineers and scientists. You ensure adequate resources, budget, and competence levels to deliver improved plant materials with defined quality at defined time and cost.
- You ensure the contribution of Plant breeding and related agronomic practices to the current and future success of our businesses, driving innovation projects in alignment with business and sustainability strategies.
- You interact proactively with strategic business functions and operations to define key success criteria and ensure the transfer of the project deliverables.
- As an expert in Plant breeding, you create synergies through effective networking with all relevant R&D Units, business partners and Head Office. You build and maintain an external network of key players in your research and manage collaborations with external partners.

**What will make the difference**

At least 10 years of international experience in plant breeding and agronomy and the use of relevant state-of-the-art technology platforms.

Crop genetics and breeding experience. Experience in coffee or cocoa an advantage

Close exposure to Operations, Corporate Functions and/or markets within industrial environment

Excellent project management skills with successful transfer into business

Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead cross-functional project teams

Courage to take decisions and solve problems

Proven communication skills to influence key stakeholders
