The valorization of polymer and bitumen wastes are a true challenge in the construction of a global sustainable and circular economy. In most published studies, pyrolysis is applied on either polymer or bitumen as to obtain molecules useful in the chemical industry. While polymer waste yield a limited range of valorizable molecules, bitumen usually release a full spectrum of several thousand molecular structures similar to petroleum. Initial work has shown that the co-pyrolysis of these compounds allows synergy, by reducing the energy consumption necessary for the operation, while improving the quality and quality of the hydrocarbons obtained. **The aim of this PhD is to study the possibility of a new strategy in the chemical recycling of polymer and bitumen waste by using co-pyrolysis.**

The research will thus focus on:

- An experimental campaign based on the copyrolysis of polymer and bitumen waste (road asphalt, construction bitumen, bitumen polluted soils) mixtures aiming at the optimization of pyrolysis variables (mixtures compositions, temperature range, time, pressure, minerals contents).
- The identification and quantitation of reaction products
- The identification of reaction pathways and their computer modelling

The overall research aims at the understanding of how the large variability of molecules release from bitumen waste upon pyrolysis may significantly improve the rate of plastic waste depolymerization (and vice versa) and the formation of higher quality molecules, while determining the optimal operating conditions for developing such a process.
