**Ready to contribute to the future of the automotive industry?**

We are Hitachi Astemo France S.A.S, part of Hitachi Astemo, focusing on world-leading advanced mobility solutions within the fields of electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity to help reduce environmental damage, decrease traffic accidents, and improve comfort. Together, we contribute to a sustainable society and improved quality of life by providing mobility solutions that satisfy our customers and form the future core of automotive and motorcycle systems. Our people are at the heart of achieving these goals, and we are proud to be an equal opportunities employer.

**About Hitachi Astemo Brake Business Unit**:
Our Brake Business Unit is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of automotive braking solutions. Our products - disc brakes, drum brakes, electromechanical parking brakes and rotors - are dedicated to passenger cars, light commercial and two-wheeler vehicles through original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket distribution channels. We have a global footprint with operations across Europe, Asia, South Africa, North and South America.

At Hitachi Astemo, Harmony, Sincerity and Pioneering Spirit are practiced values - we respect each other, never pass the buck and work creatively to accomplish our mission. Our people are given exciting opportunities to develop and grow in a truly international business, where they are proud to be part of a collaborative and innovative team. Diversity & Inclusion is valued to build and leverage an inclusive work environment and embrace diversity to unlock our full potential. We believe that this will give us the strength to drive great innovations to create new values for people, vehicles and the society, and to unlock our full potential to become a global leader in everything we do.

**About the PhD thesis project**:
In recent years, EMBs have drawn significant attention from both research communities and automotive brake suppliers alike, as they are deemed to be a promising replacement for hydraulic brakes in the automotive industry. However, the different nature of the actuator dynamics renders traditional ABS regulation logics unsuitable for future braking systems. The main goal of this thesis is to address the adaptation of ABS algorithms to EMB actuators, considering both disc and drum brakes. The approach proposed in this thesis is based on the regulation of the angular acceleration of the wheels. It also aims at considering the specificities of certain sensors and actuators, which induce additional constraints in the design of the braking system.

**Key responsibilities and activities**:
Over a 36-month period you will conduct the following research activities:

- Review the state of the art on ABS control algorithms for electromechanical brakes
- Study the stability of drum brakes from a perspective of control theory
- Study the braking distribution and its link with the lateral stability of a vehicle
- Development of simulation models of electromechanical braking systems
- Optimization of control algorithms for the regulation of wheel angular acceleration
- Design of ABS control algorithms adapted to electromechanical brake actuators
- Design of observers (Kalman filter) based on incremental encoder timestamping
- Coordination of testing activities (validation of the algorithms designed during the thesis on a test bench and a prototype vehicle)
- Writing of a PhD dissertation and oral defense of the thesis (Université Paris-Saclay)
- Compliance with the graduate school requirements for the obtention of the doctoral degree (ED STIC)

**Your profile**:

- Key Professional Competencies : _
- Solid background in automatic control
- Basic understanding of physics, electronics and mechatronics
- High proficiency in Matlab/Simulink or similar programming software
- Advanced English level (C1 or higher)
- Intermediate French level (B1 or higher)
- Key Personal Competencies : _
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Autonomy and proactivity
- Dynamic mindset, adaptability
- Good synthesis and communication skills
- Technical and documentary rigor
- Ability to work in a team and interact with both academic and industrial partners
- At ease in a multicultural environment
- Qualifications & Experience : _
- Master degree or equivalent in Control Engineering or Applied Mathematics (with good knowledge in control)
- A first experience in research would be appreciated
- A first experience with rapid prototyping tools (e.g. dSpace, ControlDesk) would be appreciated

**Location**:
Drancy, France (Hitachi Astemo Paris site)
Gif-sur-Yvette, France (L2S, University Paris-Saclay)

**Application**:
Applications must include (preferably in a single PDF file): CV, cover letter, official transcripts from the engineering and master’s program, recommendation letter or contact information of at least one person of reference (optional), one peer-reviewed publication autho
