**Context**
- Nexans has initiated a major strategic shift from a cable generalist to a pure electrification player all along the value chain, from generation to usage through transport and distribution. Nexans shifts from volume growth focus towards value scale focus, with the ambition to develop innovation based on a deep understanding of customer usages, the need of sustainable development solutions and the development of differentiating and disruptive systems and solution offers, leveraging digitalisation and partnerships.
- In line with this strategy, Nexans is willing to accelerate the scale up of the Acceleration Units (Nexans Solar Technologies, Nexans Machinery, Nexans Cryogenics, Nexans Superconductivity) which are technology incubators focussed on growing promising markets (LH2, Powering up cities due to the electrification trend, industrialisation of new cables and finally the solar energy) and shall play a role in the energy transition.
**Purpose**
- The aim of the Acceleration Units is to support the energy transition with offers addressing current challenges due to the conventional ones.
- Developing their offers and technologies in order to deploy it at scale with the optimal time to market while taking in account the return on investment and the satisfaction of stakeholders.
- In order to achieve our objectives, we need a superconducting system engineer to develop technologies and solutions creating value for our customer.
**Areas of responsibility**
Main Overall areas of responsibility
- He/She is part of the Superconductivity Team and will contribute in the business development and industrialization of the technology
- He/She is responsible for the engineering of superconducting system that to meet the customer needs
- He/She will contribute to the development of the superconducting systems, their specification and integrating with the cryogenic refrigeration systems
Main tasks and activities
- Contributes to the development of superconducting systems (cables and fault current limiters)
- Optimization of operating conditions
- Specification and integration of appropriate cryogenic refrigeration systems
- Creation of holistic security concepts and their implementation in hardware and software
- Work towards the industrialisation of the technology to make it more competitive
- Interact frequently with Key Partners or suppliers to constantly analyse the possibilities for optimizing the systems, improving the manufacturing, adopting new potential technologies / components that will contribute to a better TCO for customers
- Support the Business Development in joining the sales department for acquiring projects
- Interacts with customers, suppliers and subcontractors in order to present the solution and define the project technical requirements
- Represent Nexans in public events, being a speaker during conferences, a spokesperson during trade shows
- Writes technical documentation (in English) and case studies
- Support sales department in better understanding the competition landscape and how Nexans can differentiate themselves vs competition
- Support the Marketing and Communication department for developing the value creation of Superconductivity
- Use the social media for advocating for the Superconductivity
- Project executions
- Participates in the testing in our factory or at site of superconducting systems
- Contributes to project execution through his expertise and assist the Project Management whenever needed
- Acquire an operational knowledge ensuring a wider understanding of the superconductivity through our partners and based on market needs
- Other
- Support the definition of the strategy and the most efficient way to execute it in a successful manner
- Develops numerical and analytical calculation models
- Work on Superconductivity cable and Fault current limiters parameters modelisation to simplify the time required for costing and quotation
- Engage himself towards the definition of HTS Cables standards to simplify the offer and reduce the engineering time and risks associated to the engineering
**Expected results**
- Financial improvement of the Superconductivity Business Line
- Technological and cost improvement of superconducting systems
- Development of our understanding in the field of superconducting devices and related technologies
**Required skills, know how & experience**
Technical skills
- PHD in Superconductivity or Master’s degree in physics, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering
- Expertise in Superconductivity or MV/HV
