**Project**: Custom development of natural eutectic matrices for perfumery/cosmetics (DESPerfume)

In the current context of transition towards ever more natural cosmetic products and materials, numerous efforts have been made to substitute more eco-responsible solvents, in particular for obtaining perfume materials. A major challenge is the substitution of petrochemical solvents still widely used for the extraction of plant materials. If alternative solvents or fluids have already demonstrated great efficiency in accessing fragrant terpene molecules, the re-dissolution of these extracts proves to be more complex, giving rise to sometimes tedious physico-chemical treatment steps. or significant sample dilutions. Natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES) represent a relevant alternative to explore, especially for pre-formulation. The SIMBA laboratory has recognized expertise in the design of NaDES, and in development of eco-extraction processes using NaDES.

In this project, we propose to study the design and development of processes dedicated to the access and pre-formulation of natural raw materials for perfumery/cosmetics

The NaDES systems used must meet several constraints: compatibility with European and Chinese regulations as well as with the COSMOS list. Innovative processes will be explored to offer a range of odors from the same raw material, by playing on the modularity of processes and NaDES systems, allowing total customization of the process.

An _in silico_ approach combining the COSMO-RS approach and Hansen's parameters will be implemented in order to screen a large number of potentially relevant combinations, for a family of target metabolites and/or according to the desired physico-chemical parameters for the NaDES.

**Skills / diploma**

PhD in thermodynamic, or process engineering, or Natural product chemistry

COSMO RS or Hansen parameter thermodynamics approach knowledge was highly recommended.

Knowledge of extraction processes and eutectic solvents would be welcome
