Within the DTI, the purpose of the instrumentation engineer is to accompany industrial investment projects in instrumentation, controls, and regulations, in Saint-Gobain Glass factories worldwide and manage the standard instrumentation specifications of the technical department and the best practices to be applied.
The Instrumentation and Control / Regulation Engineer will be the Saint-Gobain Glass central and global expert of instrumentation and control regulation applied to the manufacturing of flat glass. He will demonstrate an important autonomy and technical leadership towards the Glass Plants worldwide (internal customers of DTI).
In his role, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Manage technical standards related to instrumentation and process control loops
- Write and maintain the standard specifications, data sheets, or P&IDs
- Coordinate and Ensure the evolution and improvements of the technical standards based on the evolution of the requirements (process change, legal standards, cost optimization,)
- Support the investment projects for float lines on instrumentation and control-regulation scope
- Ensure that the Saint-Gobain standards are applied correctly in the projects by the project teams and suppliers.
- Participate in defining the project scope based on technical audits and plant requirements, in collaboration with project and plant operation teams
- Participate in all technical purchasing phases (specification writing, offer analysis and technical alignment, reception and acceptance tests monitoring)
- Monitor the commissioning of various systems and carrying out functional tests on-site before production startup
- Participate in the tuning of control loops and support production ramp-up
- Coordinate the resolution of snag points in the projects and monitor the performance of the systems during the production ramp-up
- Consolidate the project documentation and the feed-lack and lessons learnt from the project by adapting the technical standards, adapting the supplier portfolio or changing the methodology
- Provide support to running glass plants
- Contribute to technical problem solving in case of difficulties related to instrumentation or control loops in the plants
- Conduct technical audits in the factories
- Contribute to purchasing processes and technical watch
- Ensure technological watch on relevant equipment and measurement and regulation methods
- Manage the relation with certified instrumentation suppliers
- Identify and validate potential new suppliers together with the purchasing team
The position requires to participate to the Cold and Hot Commissioning phases including process start-up and stabilization of the new or renovated plants, so-called “Glass Tests” in Saint-Gobain: Comprehensive testing of equipment and systems of an industrial line before its production startup
**Ce poste est-il fait pour vous ?** Education / Technical skills**:
Generalist Engineer or Engineer in Electronics / Instrumentation / Controls with 5 - 10 years of experience in the Manufacturing Industry with a field experience. Experience in an international and multicultural environment would be appreciated.
Fluent in spoken and written English mandatory. French is highly appreciated. Spanish or German is a plus.
Specific technical skills:
- Knowledge in Field communication networks (Profibus DP, Modbus TCP et RTU,)
- Knowledge in automation and controls / regulation
- Good understanding of supplier management
Knowledge in ATEX regulation and associated instrumentation would be appreciated

***Job Requirement **:Multinational, multicultural et «Multi-project» mindset. The position will be based in Aubervilliers in France. During the office work, 2 days of home office per week are possible. The position requires frequent travels to the projects and plants of Saint-Gobain Glass.
- Travels of approx. 1 to 2 weeks during the project design and erection phases
- Longer stays during the cold and hot commissioning phase of the project and start-up (“Glass Tests”)
