- In this thesis, we explore the structured integration of satellites, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and terrestrial networks in a hybrid satellite-aerial-terrestrial network (SATN) architecture, with the objective of supporting a massive number of devices while delivering optimal performances. Indeed, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) bring an intermediate dimension between ground and satellites, with lots of benefits such as high throughput, flexibility, and reliability. On one hand, UAV is able to communicate with satellite and ground devices simultaneously. And on the other hand, using UAV as relay can improve the quality of satellite links and reduce the ground wireless interferences. But this new 3-tier SATN paradigm introduces significant system complexity, primarily due to the diverse and dynamic nature of space, air, and ground-based communications.
- The research goal is to develop accurate optimization models for resource allocation in SATN in order to evaluate the deployment of such solutions. Network performances can be assessed by several objectives involving power control, time allocation, UAV trajectory optimization, energy efficiency,... Efficient multi-objective optimization models and sophisticated solving techniques will have to be investigated.
