**Position summary**:
The Staff Engineer performs complex implant and instrument design work, leads large projects, and actively participates on multi-functional teams to advance assigned projects through the design/development process though launch to the market.

**Essential duties & responsibilities**:

- Interface with surgeon and sales reps to gather input for design and evaluation of new products.
- Utilize advanced knowledge of surgical procedures to develop innovative solutions that satisfy customer needs.
- Work cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
- Actively participate on cross-functional design teams and lead large projects.
- Participate in and lead, as applicable, design reviews.
- Independently designs, develops, modifies, evaluates and verifies mechanical components and subsystems for medical devices.
- Identify and support the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology.
- Support and execute segments of complex multifunctional teams to advance projects through the design /development/launch process.
- Contributes to product development from concept through release.
- Deliver high quality results with passion, energy and drive to meet business priorities.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to build partnership to achieve business objectives.
- Support Voice of Customer sessions internally and with clinicians.
- Demonstrate developing financial acumen.
- Be proficient with and mentor others in usage of industry standards, including design requirements and test strategies per applicable regulations.
- Lead creation and refinement of engineering documentation, such as the Design History file.
- Follow and mentor others on R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.
- Independently research, design, develop, modify, and verify components, modules and sub-systems for medical devices.
- Translate user needs to design inputs/ specifications and produce complex system level designs with some guidance.
- Conduct or design advanced prototyping and testing.
- May develop fixtures for verification testing of medical devices.
- Must be able to analyze and correct complex product design issues using independent judgment.

**Education & special trainings**:

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical or Masters in related discipline

**Qualifications & experience**:

- 4+ years of work experience.
- Strong technical ability to develop and optimize designs for mechanical assemblies incorporating DFM principles.
- High experience with a parametric CAD package, (ProE, Creo or SolidWorks preferred).
- Ability to communicate moderate complexity plans and technical information to team members.
- Moderate project management skills, including ability to build project timelines and budgets while monitoring progress per a budget goal.
- High level of experience and demonstrated proficiency with design controls within a regulated industry.
- Receives a low level of supervision.
- Provides moderate strategic and moderate tactical input.
- Responsible for large projects.
