CT19 are leading a retained search for a rapidly scaling biotech in Paris that are unlocking one of humanity’s greatest untapped innovation engines: nature’s hidden chemical diversity. With a breakthrough synthetic biology and computational platform, this organization is systematically exploring natural molecules that evolution has refined for billions of years, that science has not yet discovered. Why this matters: the vast majority of natural chemical diversity remains unexplored The 3% of natural products that have been discovered are responsible for creating over 500 approved drugs Pharma, agtech, and animal health pipelines are slowing down and current AI tools can only make new synthetic molecules on what we already know, creating a demand for new discoveries The Opportunity You will join an early stage biotech who's one of a kind platform is capable of systematically accessing the remaining undiscovered natural chemistry at industrial scale. Their integrated engine combining sequencing, cloning, synthetic biology, metabolomics, and advanced bioinformatics has already generated hundreds of novel molecules, far exceeding other discovery approaches. Demand from global pharma and agtech partners already exceeds current capacity, and the company is now expanding its computational and genomics capabilities to scale toward commercial throughput. As Senior Bioinformatician, you will be central to this mission: mining microbial genomes, uncovering biosynthetic gene clusters, and transforming genomic data into high-value discovery hypotheses that feed directly into the wet‑lab and automated discovery stack. Key Responsibilities BGC discovery & prioritization – Annotate, cluster, and rank biosynthetic gene clusters across large microbial collections. Microbial genome analysis – Perform assembly, annotation, and QC across short‑ and long‑read datasets. Pipeline development – Build scalable workflows (Snakemake, Nextflow) for genome mining and comparative genomics. Multi‑omic integration – Connect genomic features with metabolomic, phenotypic, and activity data. Database development – Contribute to AI‑ready internal datasets linking genes, molecules, and bioactivity. Insight generation – Produce visualizations and reports to guide R&D and partner‑facing decisions. Team collaboration – Support junior scientists and work closely with wet‑lab teams to validate new molecules. What we are looking for 5+ years in bioinformatics, computational biology, or microbial genomics. Strong experience with BGC detection, assembly, annotation, clustering, and dereplication workflows. Proficiency in Python and modern bioinformatics tooling. Solid grounding in microbial metabolism, phylogeny, and biosynthetic pathways. Clear communicator with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insight. Bonus: experience integrating metabolomics with genomics, NP expression systems, or ML approaches. Join at a pivotal moment as the company transitions from proven scientific engine to fully commercial discovery platform. Contact mason@ct-19.co.uk for more information.
