PhD position – Quantum sensing – M/F Location: Institut d'Optique d'Aquitaine, Bordeaux (France) Funding: CIFRE Overview iXatom is a joint research lab between the Laboratoire Photonique Numérique et Nanosciences (LP2N) and Exail, a world leader in photonics, inertial navigation, and cold atom sensors. The project aims to develop a multi‑axis hybrid accelerometer optimized for onboard environments, combining classical and quantum sensors to improve inertial navigation performance. Responsibilities Develop a multi‑axis hybrid accelerometer based on cold atom interferometry. Perform data fusion and advanced sensor fusion techniques such as Kalman filtering to optimize hybrid sensor performance. Conduct multi‑axis measurements using atom interferometry and study systematic effects in dynamic environments. Simulate real‑world acceleration and rotation conditions on moving platforms and test the sensor. Integrate laser systems, temperature stabilization, and other experimental hardware. Qualifications Master’s degree or equivalent in physics or engineering (or evidence of near‑term completion). Strong theoretical and experimental knowledge in optics, quantum physics, or signal processing. Experience and appetite for experimental work. PhD candidate in France, preferably located in Bordeaux.
