Software Engineering Manager – Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software and operating systems. As the platform behind Ubuntu, we build a next‑generation private cloud infrastructure using KVM, Ceph, SDN, and container technologies. We are hiring experienced engineering managers to lead a remote team focused on high‑quality microservice architectures and distributed systems. Location: Remote – available in EMEA and the Americas. Responsibilities Lead a remote team of engineers, driving technical direction and delivery. Coach and mentor engineers to grow professionally and deliver high‑quality software. Collaborate with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to set and meet expectations. Advocate modern software development practices and participate in code and architectural reviews. Engage with the open‑source community, Canonical partners, and internal teams. Work from home with 4–6 weeks of global travel per year for internal and external events. Qualifications Strong technical background in Linux kernel, virtualisation, storage, and networking. Proven experience leading high‑performing, collaborative engineering teams. Knowledge of modern Linux cloud‑computing technologies: containers, networking, storage, K8s. Programming experience in C and/or Go. Strong written and verbal communication skills; bachelor's or equivalent in CS or STEM fields. Track record of developing people and delivering timely, high‑quality software. Benefits Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly in‑person sprints.
