Senior Software Engineer – Canonical Canonical is a pioneering open‑source company that builds the world’s most widely used enterprise cloud platform, Ubuntu. Our teams are distributed across the globe and collaborate to deliver powerful, secure and scalable software to customers in cloud, data science, AI, IoT and edge computing. What you’ll do Own the end‑to‑end design, delivery and support of features in a highly concurrent, highly distributed system that powers cloud automation at scale. Collaborate proactively with a distributed team and contribute to the success of the Juju product and the larger Canonical ecosystem. Debug complex issues, interact with upstream communities publicly and drive operational excellence across the stack. Coach less experienced colleagues, actively contribute to building a first‑class engineering team and help run the team as a senior engineer. Work remotely and travel up to 4 times a year for internal and external events. What we’re looking for Proven track record of professional software delivery using Go. Hands‑on experience developing highly concurrent, distributed systems. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Strong academic background (high school and preferably university). Experience with agile software development methodologies. Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events. Additional skills that would be a plus (not required) Container technologies (Docker, LXD, Kubernetes, etc.). Low‑level programming languages (C, C++, Rust, etc.). Networking background and experience. Experience in the Linux and open‑source software world. Configuration management software (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.). Working knowledge of cloud computing. Passionate about software quality and testing. Packaging experience (Debian, snaps). SQL and NoSQL database experience. Open‑source contributions and distributed team experience.
