Commercial Systems Unit The Commercial Systems unit is conceived as six engineering teams that closely collaborate with other engineering and business teams at Canonical. Services designed, developed, and operated by the Commercial Systems unit are at the heart of Canonical business and Golang plays an integral role in it. Billing team – designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that turns metrics into billable amounts, provides customers with real‑time spend visibility, and ensures accurate, reliable, and timely billing. It integrates with payment systems and other engineering, business, and payment systems. Contracts team – designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that becomes the single source of truth for all contracts with all customers. It provides a standardized CPQ capability, stores signed contracts in a structured format, and integrates with CRM and accounting systems. Livepatch team – designs and develops a service for delivering Linux kernel patches to shrink the exploit window for critical and high severity kernel vulnerabilities. The team builds Golang‑based client and backend components, while the Kernel team develops the patches. Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region. Role Responsibilities Develop engineering solutions leveraging Golang. Lead technical designs, code reviews, and implementation. Deploy and operate services developed by the team. Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback to colleagues. Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices. Qualifications and Expectations Exceptional academic track record from high school and university. Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path. Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results. Experience with software development in Golang. Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills. Result‑oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments. Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long. Nice‑to‑Have Skills Performance engineering and security experience.
