Overview This internship is for physicists, mathematicians and geophysicists in their last year of school who are looking for a six-month internship to apply theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills to real Earth data. Please verify in advance if it is possible to obtain the signature of your school for this agreement. What will you learn? The world beneath our feet is complex and the source of natural resources fundamental to modern society. We use signal processing, modelling and imaging techniques and our compute facilities enable high-resolution 3D images and models of subsurface structure and rock properties for our clients. During your internship you will work inside a processing and imaging team, in close collaboration with our R&D department, to provide the latest technology to our clients. You will have the opportunity to work on one of the following topics: Land processing & Imaging Organizing a large dataset – several hundred terabytes per processing step Testing and following a processing sequence of signal processing (denoising, designature, multiple suppression) Building a velocity model with the latest technologies (full waveform inversion, tomography) Presenting status reports to clients each week Marine processing & Imaging Testing and following a processing sequence of signal processing (denoising, designature, multiple suppression) Building a velocity model with the latest technologies (full waveform inversion, tomography) Presenting status reports to clients each week 4D processing & Imaging Testing and following a sequence of signal processing designed to remove non-repeatable noise while preserving signal to monitor reservoir evolution Imaging the various surveys to locate 4D differences at the true geological location Running a preliminary analysis of results to ensure reservoir evolution (porosity, permeability) and possible subsidence have physical meaning Presenting status reports to clients each week Elastic FWI Full waveform inversion (FWI) is the standard solution to build a velocity model for land or marine data. Elastic modeling is more expensive, and Viriden is working to improve efficiency for production, including large surveys. This will enable inversion of Vp, Vs and density for reservoir properties. During this internship you will: Test elastic-FWI on several real-world datasets to assess estimation of Vp, Vs and density Verify results with reservoir specialists Optimize the use of these tools to be cost-effective in production Qualifications Last year of a Master’s degree in Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, Astrophysics/Astronomy, Natural Sciences with a Physics specialization Key Skills and Experiences Analytical approach to problem-solving Enthusiastic attitude towards learning and passion for your subject Ability to adapt existing knowledge to a new field Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts Evidence of leadership, teamwork or customer service from university activities, volunteering, or work experience Additional information Location: Massy, greater Parisian region of France Starting Date: From February 2026 Internship Duration: 6 months Recruitment process Our recruitment process consists of 3 steps.
