Technician Squad Leader

Position Overview This position is accountable for supervising and/or preparing in‑house studies and plans for district highway projects and for supervising, reviewing, and evaluating consultant activities involved in the preparation of studies and plans for these improvements. Essential Functions Ensure that studies and plans prepared are accurate, complete, and compliant with design standards, specifications, and depict the most cost‑effective designs for projects. Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, rules, and policies. Motivate, train, evaluate, and ensure the safety and well‑being of subordinate personnel. Provide liaison between the district Bureau of Program Development and consulting engineers in matters pertaining to transportation facility studies and plans. Conduct public involvement activities that provide accurate information to the public, ensure that all public input is valued, and result in a positive image of the department. Perform duties in compliance with departmental safety rules, and in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre‑engineering, or a related technical/science curriculum plus five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience. Preferred Qualifications Ability to perform job duties independently and with minimal guidance/supervision. Strong oral and/or written communication skills and strong organization skills. Conditions of Employment Requires successful completion of a background screening. Requires a valid driver’s license. Requires frequent district‑wide travel. Employee must be aware of revolving‑door restrictions in 5 ILCS 430/5‑45 and must notify the office of the Executive Inspector General for the agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) if offered non‑State employment during or within one year after ending State employment. Employee must file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Illinois Governmental Ethics Act, 5 ILCS 420/4A et seq., and must file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission.
