The team comprises five specialist areas:Forecasting – predicting energy demand and generationTrading – hedging and shaping our trading positionsRisk – tracking and reporting ongoing risk to OctopusPPA – increasing the share of energy we buy directly from generatorsEngineering – building and running the global technical platform that makes it all workOur Engineering sub-team keeps everything running. We maintain the global tech platform that powers these processes, and we’re always looking to innovate and improve by building better tools, streamlining workflows, and creating robust systems that support trading operations.What you will be doingMaintaining and developing our data platform infrastructure, helping team members debug and resolve live issues while growing a self-service suite of monitoring toolsDriving long-term robustness and scalability of trading processes supporting global growthSetting up and maintaining processes for capturing, preparing and loading valuable new data into the data lakeHelping trading, forecasting, risk and PPA teams optimise key operational pipelines while taking responsibility for process maintenanceDeveloping automations and alerts to quickly debug where pipelines are failing or showing unprecedented trendsWorking with international teams across the Octopus Energy Group to ensure best practices and standardised code where possibleWhat you'll haveStrong experience in platform infrastructure development with Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform/OpenTofu IAC, Postgres, CDC systems and DockerPassion for enabling self-service platform monitoring using Datadog, Grafana and PrometheusExpertise with SQL and Python as core data languagesSolid experience with Django and WSGIExperience with data products such as Airflow, Spark, dbt, JupyterAbility to translate needs into a solid set of requirements and design scalable solutionsTeam player with ownership mindset across projects and toolsPassion for driving towards Net ZeroPushes for knowledge sharing and documentation for a more effective platformOpen to travelling to Octopus offices across Europe and the USWhy you’ll love it hereSalary: details discussed with recruiters; there is flexibility and we aim to match your experience with the right packageUnique culture with autonomy and collaboration; recognised as a top employerFor this role we are looking for someone who would be happy to work in the Paris office 2-3 days a week.Our process usually takes up to four weeks, but we’ll flex around what works for you.
