OverviewPrincipal Environmental and Social Policy SpecialistAIIB is a multilateral development bank focused on financing infrastructure for tomorrow in Asia and beyond, with sustainability at its core. The Strategy, Policy and Budget Department (SPB) develops and monitors the implementation of AIIB's strategic agenda and the operational policies and procedures for the non-treasury infrastructure investment portfolio, ensuring compliance with environmental, social, procurement, and financial management requirements. It also develops the annual business plan to support AIIB's strategies and administrative budget.The Principal Environmental and Social Policy Specialist supports the development and application of the Environmental and Social Policy (ESP) in AIIB's nonsovereign-backed investment operations, with emphasis on financial intermediary (FI) projects. The role involves refining guidance and procedures, advising ESG specialists in investment teams on complex issues, and assisting management in addressing concerns raised by internal and external stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesAdvise on the preparation of environmental and social assessments and implementation of environmental and social management plans and other instruments.Advise on strategic, sectoral, regional, and cumulative impact assessments for selected operations.Review and validate environmental/social risks, impacts, and mitigations identified by investment teams on complex projects, particularly FI projects, against AIIB\'s ESP requirements.Develop and monitor actions to resolve issues related to Bank and client compliance with AIIB\'s environmental requirements.Support AIIB\'s knowledge base on environmental and social aspects through training and capacity building of AIIB staff.Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by supervisor.RequirementsMinimum 20 years of relevant experience in a multilateral development bank (MDB), bilateral development organization, or private-sector organization.Master\'s degree or equivalent in environmental science, engineering, social studies, planning, law, or related fields from a reputable university.Experience in developing and implementing environmental/social strategies, policies, and procedures, especially those used by MDBs for FI projects.Experience interpreting and applying policies and communicating them to a broad range of stakeholders, including senior management, boards of directors, and civil society organizations.Knowledge of project development and supervision, including project design and feasibility studies.Expertise in planning and managing environmental/social aspects of infrastructure programs in sectors such as energy, transport, water, urban development, and digital infrastructure.Experience in planning, preparation, and implementation of project-level environmental and social assessments and related studies, including ESMPs and frameworks.Willingness to make site visits.Experience with ESG ratings or sustainable finance operations is desirable.Outstanding written and verbal English communication and writing skills.AIIB is committed to diversity, transparency, and inclusion.
