PhD Dynamic structural organization of electrospun biobased nanocomposites under uniaxial extension The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France. Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X‑ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics. Supported by 19 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity. Thesis subject: Dynamic structural organization of electrospun biobased nanocomposites under uniaxial / biaxial extension, probed by in‑situ USAXS/SAXS/WAXS. You will join the ID02 team composed of 7 people and study multiscale structural organization in biobased nanocomposites subjected to extension using small‑angle X‑ray scattering (SAXS) and related methods. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with Laboratoire Rhéologie et Procédés (LRP), Université Grenoble Alpes. The beamline ID02 is a high‑resolution time‑resolved SAXS/WAXS/USAXS instrument featuring a 34m long detector tube combined with state‑of‑the‑art detectors. The beamline is primarily dedicated to research on soft materials and biological specimens. Current in‑house research topics include dynamics of driven colloids, spontaneous self‑assembly processes in amphiphilic systems, and relationship between microstructure and rheology in complex fluids. Further information may be obtained from: A background in soft matter, process engineering and/or fluid mechanics is desirable. Degree allowing enrolment for a PhD (such as MSc, Master 2 de Recherche, Laurea or equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, physics or a closely related science. The candidate must have obtained and provide proof of a diploma at the time of application. Proficiency in English (a proof of upper‑intermediate B2 level must be included in the application. Applicants originating from native‑English‑speaking countries can apply without the need for proof of level. An official degree conducted in English will also be accepted as a proof). If the applicant is unable to provide proof, an English test (free of charge) will be requested. Compliance with the Marie Sklodowska‑Curie mobility rule: candidates may not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the host institute's country for more than twelve months in the three years immediately before the application deadline (31/03/2026). All researchers recruited must be doctoral candidates, i.e. not already working towards or in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment. Candidates must satisfy the conditions for enrolment in a doctoral programme. You shall be enrolled at Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) / IMEP 2 Doctoral School as a condition of your recruitment. Contract of two years, renewable for one year. Do you recognise yourself in this description?
