Your day at NTT DATA The Database Administrator is a seasoned subject matter expert, responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity and performance of critical data assets. This role works closely with cross‑functional teams to support data‑driven applications, troubleshoot issues, and implement robust backup and recovery strategies. The Database Administrator works with Change Control, Release Management, Asset and Configuration Management and Capacity and Availability Management to establish the needs of users, monitor user access and security and assist in controlling access to database environments through permissions and privileges. Key responsibilities Installation, configuration, and maintenance of DBMS such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or others as required. Collaboration with software developers/architects to design and optimize database schemas, data models, and applications. Mapping out conceptual design for planned databases. Writing database documentation, including data standards, data flow diagrams, SOPs, and metadata definitions. Monitoring performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing queries and indexing. Continuous monitoring to ensure availability and proactive issue handling. Designing and implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies. Responding to production database issues by taking down or taking the database offline as needed. Supporting development of database utilities and automated reporting. Working with Change Control and Release Management to commission and install new applications or customize existing ones. Planning and executing database software upgrades and patching. Communicating regularly with technical, application and operational staff to ensure integrity and security. Performing data validation, integrity checks, and cleansing activities. Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to support initiatives. Providing technical support and training to end‑users. Performing other related tasks as required. Qualifications / Key Skills Proficiency in database administration including installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning. Strong SQL skills for complex queries, stored procedures, and functions. Knowledge of database security principles, access control, and encryption. Experience with backup and recovery strategies. Ability to monitor performance, identify, and resolve issues. Project management skills and attention to detail. Willingness to learn new technologies. Effective communication and collaboration with cross‑functional teams. Understanding of data architecture and data services. Knowledge of application development lifecycle and data access layers. Problem‑solving and analytical skills, especially for unstructured data. Ability to manipulate, process and extract value from large datasets. Academic qualifications and certifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, IT or related field. Relevant certifications such as MCSE DBA, Oracle Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional – Database Administrator, MySQL Database Administrator, PostgreSQL Certified Professional. Completion of database management courses covering administration, modelling, SQL, and performance tuning is advantageous. Required experience Experience as a Database Administrator in an IT organization. Experience with backup and recovery best practices. Experience generating health assessment reports. Experience working with suppliers to deliver solutions. Experience with Oracle Enterprise and Microsoft SQL Server. Experience managing databases.
