Software Engineer - Python - Container Images Join to apply for the Software Engineer - Python - Container Images role at Canonical. Location: EMEA Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. In this role, you will build and maintain a growing portfolio of container images while working with multiple teams to ensure high quality and a seamless Ubuntu user experience. You will also be involved in the implementation and maintenance of CI/CD automation for these images, requiring deep insight into container‑based DevOps. Responsibilities Build robust, scalable, leading‑edge container images. Work on automated CI/CD processes for building, testing and publishing container images. Write tools and tests for assessing security compliance and cloud‑native compatibility. Participate in strong engineering processes through code and architectural review. Contribute to the improvement of Python‑ and Go‑based container‑building tools as a user and developer. Provide technical feedback for the team's decision‑making process. Engage with the open‑source community as a subject‑matter expert. Grow the knowledge base and write documentation. Work in a collaborative, agile, and globally distributed environment. Mentor junior team members and help with hiring. Work from home with global travel up to 15% for internal and external events. Qualifications Knowledgeable and passionate about software development. Team player with experience in collaborative development. Experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Concourse CI, etc.). Familiarity with GitOps principles and workflows. Track record of delivering timely, high‑quality software. Experience building container images. Proficient in at least one container management/orchestration tool (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.). Experience with Python. Experience with Linux systems administration and package management. Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts. Clear technical and engineering communication. Belief that sharing knowledge is valuable. Capable of performing roles from Graduate to Mid‑Senior Software Engineer. Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree. What we offer Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly team sprints in person.
