Position The Director / Site Head of EH&S holds overall strategic accountability for Environmental, Health & Safety performance, compliance, and risk management at the site. The role operates at site leadership level and provides strategic direction, governance, and external representation, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and site business objectives. Responsibilities Define and drive the site EH&S strategy in alignment with corporate objectives and local regulatory requirements. Ensure the robustness and sustainability of the site EH&S management system during ramp-up and steady-state operations. Act as the primary EH&S interface with regulatory authorities, inspectors, and external stakeholders. Ensure site readiness for inspections and audits; oversee regulatory commitments and follow-up actions. Provide strategic leadership and prioritization on EH&S risks impacting operations, projects, and investments. Oversee high-severity incidents and ensure systemic corrective and preventive actions. Provide direction, coaching, and oversight to the EH&S Manager and team, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities. Define EH&S resourcing strategy, including use of temporary or external support during peak workload periods. Represent the site in corporate and global EH&S governance forums and decision-making bodies. Actively contribute to site leadership decisions, integrating EH&S considerations into operational and strategic planning. In accordance with French regulations, the Site Head remains the legal representative of the site and retains ultimate civil and penal responsibility for Environmental, Health & Safety matters. Any delegation of authority does not transfer penal liability and is limited to operational execution within the defined scope. Qualification Master degree or equivalent in occupational safety, Environmental Science, or related field; alternatively, scientific degree followed by formal EHS training. 15+ years related experience with advanced degree or certification in EH&S related field. 10 years of leadership management experience & expertise. Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or life science industries. Current knowledge of French EHS laws and regulations that impact the organization’s operations. Working experience in conducting incident investigations and interacting with regulatory agencies. Experience in lab and commercial manufacturing settings. Experience in lab safety, biosafety, emergency response, business continuity and ergonomics. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams comprised of discovery, process development, quality, and manufacturing. Why Sandoz?
