Stage - R&D - Piezoelectric Transducers Embedment in Hydrogen Composite Pressure Vessels for Structural Health Monitoring (F/M) Air Liquide – Join us to apply for this stage role. The Paris Innovation Campus (78 – Les Loges en Josas) is Air Liquide’s largest R&D centre, hosting over 250 researchers in 48 laboratories equipped with state‑of‑the‑art experimental platforms. Hydrogen can tackle the carbon emissions of industry and intensive transport when produced from renewable resources. Air Liquide innovates in hydrogen transportation by using new‑generation tanks made of composite materials. Inspection and maintenance of such tanks are a key point for supply‑chain safety; new monitoring methods may increase efficiency in ensuring the structural health of hydrogen tanks. In this internship, you will contribute to the integration of piezoelectric transducers into hydrogen storage structures. Embedded transducers form the foundation of mec‑plasmatic approaches, enabling in‑situ monitoring of manufacturing quality and mechanical reliability throughout the tanks’ service life. Your research will establish a structured methodology for selecting and optimizing the process‑material‑transducer triad, investigating the influence of processing parameters on the mechanical properties of transducer‑instrumented composites across multiple scales under extreme loading conditions. Particular attention will be paid to interlaminar damage mechanisms, studied through the Laser Shock technique, and to the behaviour of hydrogen‑tank composite materials under quasi‑static, high‑rate dynamic, and fatigue loading. Both experimental and numerical approaches will be employed to deepen understanding of performance in critical areas, especially interlaminar failure. The outcomes will form a solid foundation for next‑generation design tools for composite hydrogen tanks subjected to complex loadings. Are you a MATCH? Master II in mechanics, instrumentation, or applied physics. Strong scientific background for understanding physical phenomena. Proficiency in experimentation and handling of sensors, actuators, connectivity, data acquisition, and signal processing. Motivation to carry out various material characterisation tests. Solid knowledge in mechanics is appreciated. Experience in material characterisation. Additional Information Air Liquide has been awarded the Happy Trainees label. The internship will take place at Campus Innovation Paris, Air Liquide’s R&D centre in Loges‑en‑Josas (1, Chemin de la Porte des Loges) and at the PIMM Laboratory (ENSAM Paris).
