The Role:
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Flowie, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems with a focus on one or more of the following product areas: banking, financing, ledger systems, payment rails, and card systems. Your product knowledge will help shape our strategy and ensure we deliver innovative and high-quality solutions to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Development:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services for banking, financing, ledger, payment rails, or card systems.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices.
- System Architecture:
- Lead the architectural design of complex backend systems, making decisions on frameworks, tools, and technology stacks.
- Ensure systems are designed for high availability, scalability, and performance.
- Integration and API Development:
- Develop and maintain APIs for integrating with various financial systems and third-party services.
- Ensure seamless integration of backend services with frontend applications and other systems.
- Performance Optimization:
- Optimize backend services for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
- Anticipate future growth and implement solutions that can scale accordingly.
- Code Quality and Standards:
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver comprehensive solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of backend and frontend components.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Resolve complex technical issues and provide support for critical production incidents.
- Ensure quick resolution of software-related problems to maintain system reliability.
- Innovation and Best Practices:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, industry trends, and best practices in backend development and financial systems.
- Propose innovative solutions to challenging problems and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Security and Compliance:
- Ensure backend systems follow security best practices and comply with relevant regulations.
- Identify potential vulnerabilities and implement appropriate security measures.
Requirements:
- At least 6 years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer, with a proven track record in building scalable and high-performance systems.
- Proficiency in any major backend programming language, with a willingness to learn Scala. Experience with JVM or functional programming languages is a plus.

- Deep understanding of API design, microservices architecture, and server-side technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Fluent in English; additional European languages are a plus.
