Junior Software Developer - Observability Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Ubuntu is widely used in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. The company is founder‑led, profitable and growing, with 1200+ colleagues in 75+ countries working remotely. Location Remote in the EMEA and Americas regions. Role Overview As part of the Observability team, you will develop a cloud‑native monitoring stack that composes best‑in‑class open‑source monitoring tools. The stack is resilient and scalable, delivering deep insights out of the box with a polished user experience. It will monitor applications across cloud, OpenStack, bare‑metal, VMs and containers, leveraging multiple data sources including Juju. Responsibilities Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team. Write, test and document high quality code to create new features. Debug issues and interact with a vibrant community. Review code produced by other engineers. Attend conferences to represent Canonical and the Charmed Observability Stack. Work from home with global travel 2–4 weeks for internal and external events. Qualifications Love technology and working with brilliant people. Strong soft skills, passionate, enterprising, thoughtful and self‑motivated. Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree. Skilled Python developer, preferably with open‑source experience. Working knowledge of Go. Interest and experience with Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap or distributed systems. Benefits Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly in‑person sprints.
